I work as a security guard at a factory. It's not a glorious job, but it pays the bills, and it's pretty chill. Anyway, this dude was coming back from break, and he was trying to slip by me without scanning his badge.

I was like "Hey! Dude, where you goin'? You gotta scan you're badge, man.".

He's like "Oh, I left it on my jacket back at my station." as he attempted to keep walking while shouting that sentence back at me.

Then I had to stop him in his tracks and explain to him that he can't enter the building without a proper ID, and that I would have to get him a temp badge until he goes back there to recover his personnel badge.

Of course, he gets all pissy. "Well, I HAVE MY BADGE." then I say "Maybe so, but not ON your person." as I point at the sign on the door stating plainly that EVERYONE must scan their ID at the guard station upon entering the building.

Anyway, I use to be super lax on this, and let people by as long as I knew that they had their badge when they came into work that day. However, I got supremely bitched at for doing so. Termination was threatened, even.

People will walk on you, if you let them. I have NO doubt that the dude would have kept trucking, thus getting my ass possibly fired.

I just thought it would be entertaining to share.

This brings me back to my days as the director of security for a major insurance company.

God I don't miss that. I feel for you bro I got a lot of love for security guards (while also hating the majority of them).

While funny, we aren't actually allowed physical contact. I mean, the guy COULD have kept walking, and I couldn't stop him. The most I could do is call a supervisor, and tell them that an employee didn't scan in. At that point, I've covered my ass, and the employee would be the one to get in trouble.

You know, it's real easy to get in most places as long as you're carrying something and are walking with purpose. Good on you for stopping the guy, even if he wasn't dangerous or had ulterior motives.

That's basically what I told him, but in a more polite way. Something like "it's your responsibility to have your badge on you at all times.".

It's worse with people who have been here a long time. Older people who have been here for 40 years or so, feel that rules don't apply to them. They get EXTREMELY irate. It's like, they don't understand that they aren't exempt from rules, just because of their seniority.

Good on you TC, don't let some fuckboy get you fired because they couldn't be bothered to spend a few minutes going through procedure. I've got a lot of seemingly nonsense rules at work that I follow to the letter just to cover my own ass, even if it would be easier for me to do things my way.

Which is shit. They hire in security you should be able to body slam people who try that shit. What if he was a rando that wanted to shoot the place up? He just waltzes past security to a bathroom to set up shop?

Well, we have a threat switch that arms the front door for lockdown. But... Get this. It's a fuckin' glass door! LOL!

Procedure is to hit the switch, then call the police. All an intruder would have to do is shoot the glass, walk in, shoot me while I'm on the phone. LOL

lol, that's basically what this is. It seems stupid to everyone. I think it's stupid. I know the guy works here, and I know he had his badge back in the factory, but... Big boss guy says that I gotta do the temp badge thing, or my ass is gone. Sooooo... I do the temp badge thing.
