LIke seriously, the characters spend more time walking, freezing, thinking, etc than there are actual story climaxes.

THere's no hook at all. It's like I am watching a soap opera but instead of bickering/talking, it's long drawn out scenes of people doing normal stuff (walking, thinking, etc)

There were a few episodes previously that were so good, but then there are those that are so bad. It has always suffered from inconsistency problems. The potential is there, and I guess a lot of people outweigh the good with the bad because it's popularity, but I could honestly fit all the great episodes into one 7 or 8 episode season and call it done.

I thought season 3 was a masterpiece. What changed?

Season 4 drags out the story instead of keeping the suspense. At least, in my opinion. It feels like a chore watching the 50 min episode of characters walking, thinking, panicking, etc.

That's what the original show was like...

There's only one episode I will probably never rewatch out of Season 4 (Metalhead). All the others were pretty well written and carried a fair amount of intrigue.

Are there clever ideas at least? Or a few standout episodes?

Clever ideas? Not really. Mostly just repeated trope of technology gone wrong.

First one is about a Programmer that abuses virtual reality AI.
Second is about an overprotective mom wtih NSA survelience on her kid.

Now that I think about it, both were done in previous seasons.

America started paying attention to it. Now the lowest common denominator must be fed fearow.

lol, come on man it started going "downhill" with season 3 when Netflix took over.

In reality ... who knows how the show would have managed. The first two seasons were three episodes each, so there definitely seemed like an emphasis on quality over quantity there.

I think there are some cool episodes here. There's a lot of detail in USS Callister, Arkangel felt like an early season episode, and Black Museum had a lot of cool references and basically multiple stories in one (which... is maybe how the show should be, since there's no reason for hour long episodes revolving around a person learning how to open a door and step outside).

This was a fine season, don't know what people were expecting. Season 3 also had a lot of shit episodes to it.

We're just having a discussion here. If you found it entertaining, which I really wanted for myself, to be able to enjoy all 6 eps, then kudos to you.

I found it dreadfully boring and had to turn it off nearing the end of episode 2 with the mom+NASA survellience.

Maybe the idea behind the series has run it's course. You can only do "stop using and improving technology" so many times. I found most of the episodes previously good-to-great, but this season was just bad.

1st episode was good but it reminded me of an earlier episode where a company puts in realistic servant AI to serve the real life counterpart. A daily chore assistant.

2nd episode reminds me of the Christmas episode from earlier season where the system blocks out certain people from view

Repeated storylines plus monotomous walking, thinking, etc etc bored me.

Stuff being blocked out was like 15% of that episode, if that. And it wasn't even the same concept behind it either. Bad comparison.

Explain how the psychological effect on someone with limited vision is totally not related at all between the two episodes?

For some episodes yeah. Others it becomes exceedingly obvious they took the "it's the 21st century twilight zone!" reviews a little too seriously.

The season 4 episode was more about how it impacted the Mother's parenting than the daughter IMO.

Honestly I only ever liked the pig fucking episode and the one about cyber-lesbians. The rest just seem like they were written by old people who think Facebook is watching them. We've been inundated with "technology is evil" sci-fi for 15 years and this show doesn't do anything new with it.

It gets people considering the implications of the technology they use.
Well. I imagine that's the intent. I doubt most people think about it past the end credits.

I think it's important to note that Black Mirror almost always tries to comment more on human nature and how it interacts with technology and society, rather than just "Technology is bad, mmmkay."

Yeah. Sometimes a specific character uses technology in a bad way. Sometimes the technology leads to bad people getting their comeuppance.
