...with the Star Wars license?

Five years with 2 games (that did okay and with mediocre to bad reception)

It's Star Wars, it literally prints money

Yeah, I miss the late 90s/early to mid 2000s when there were like 100 star wars games of varying qualities being released. Some were god awful, some were incredible. All let you peek into an unbelievable galaxy far, far away.

Yeah I'd take tons of games of varying quality over very very few games of mediocre quality.

At least with the former we get a chance at something amazing.

What up TC you not liking what EA is doing with the exclusive SW license that they paid Disney a lot of money for =/= they don't know what they are doing.

I don't know what is in the contract that they agreed upon for the ten year exclusivity on SW games but I can take some guesses. I figure that some of the stipulations were a lot of money up front and a decent cut of the profits off of every game made with the SW license. It's a popular franchise and with the yearly movies will always have hype from Disney marketing too.

EA knows this and is trying to maximize the profits per game, as shown with the launch of Battlefront 2 and cancelling of the sp game that wasn't going to have mtx in it. Battlefront 2015 sold 14 million copies because it was the only SW game when episode 7 came out. The player base dropped quickly because there wasn't a lot of content in it, but it wasn't a financial failure. Battlefront 2 was designed to keep people playing and paying for another two years but it blew up in their face because they got too greedy too quickly, and it will be interesting to see what the player base looks like six months from now.

It's not that they don't know what they are doing, it's that they want to maximize the money they make off of us. Business is business, and most of us gamers don't pay much attention to the business side of the industry.

Well Disney is mad about the Battlefront 2 disaster so they have to know.

It's frustrating. I don't think the license should be in a single studio's hands and I hope Disney come to the same conclusion once the exclusivity contract expires.

Can't believe EA already cancelled one of the upcoming games, and the next one isn't due until 2019 at the earliest IIRC. I really like Battlefront 2 but I want a more narratively compelling and immersive experience at this point but EA clearly value games as a service and will prioritize multiplayer aspects for monetization opportunities.

Imagine if EA get the contract again for another 10 years? What a waste.

Last time I looked for player counts, Reddit had threads saying it was a ghost town and basically an online single player game. That was in early 2017 but I doubt its gotten much better since.

It's still making some money otherwise they would have pulled the plug on it already. **** EA for TOR, since if it wasn't for that game we could have had a good KOTOR 3 years seven years ago with some big dlcs and a good Mass Effect Andromeda two or three years ago with Andromeda 2 being one of the highly anticipated games of 2018.

Nine years now they have had one of Bioware's studios working on TOR since 2008 when they spent over $200 million chasing that WOW subscription money, just like what they are doing now with Anthem to chase that Destiny money. They won't shut it down until it's not making any money at all.

Again business is business and EA is all about chasing trends and trying to maximize their profits off of us. There are dozens of reasons to hate on them and TOR is one of my top reasons.

I'd wager it isn't that obvious to Disney, and they're only reacting the way they do because of the fan outrage. They just know that EA fucked up, they don't exactly comprehend how or why.

Modern Disney doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to games IMO. Remember that they pretty much pissed away the Marvel license for over half a decade because they wanted to use it solely for their Skylanders rip off.
