Don't have a Switch yet. Does the Wii U version measure up or should I wait?

I played it. Can't compare since I don't have a switch but it's fine.

I would just hope it doesn't have the frame rate issues in towns. Also slightly annoying to use the game pad in the like 5 instances you need it, though it's all optional.

totally fine. I think it has some performance issues in two of the larger villages, and runs at a lower native res, but it's playable.

whether you should wait depends on when you think you'll get a Switch. it's an incredible game, but if you're getting a Switch sometime in the next year, maybe get it with the console?

I have no idea if/when I'll get a Switch, so yeah.

I've only played the Wii U version so I can't compare it to the Switch, but it's great on its own. Some framerate issues at times, but it's not a deal breaker, and I really don't know if Switch even runs the game that much better. You do need a pro controller, though. BotW has a pretty robust control setup (every button does something) - it won't be as playable on that huge tablet.

It's fine. It runs and plays and looks virtually the same as switch. Both versions have framerate issues.

I only played it on Wii U and it was excellent (with the occasional framerate issues in certain scenarios, not sure if it's been patched/Switch does much better though). Played with the tablet too and didn't have any issues but couldn't compare it to a Pro Controller or anything.

Don't think I'll spring for the Pro Controller. That's a lot of money just to play one game. I'm not a huge fan of the tablet but I can make it work well enough. Good to know that the game is overall fine on Wii U though.

Thanks for the advice!

I couldn't spring for the Pro either. I tried to play with the tablet, but it just wasn't that enjoyable and this was a Zelda game (the only thing in gaming that really hypes me these days), so I sprung for a $22 third party one. It did a very good job, but it's currently unavailable on Amazon. =(

This one is, though:

Hope you enjoy it either way.

Looks a little worse but actually runs slightly better at some parts IIRC.

But I never played the switch version while owning the WiiU version. It runs fine IMO

I think the only gripe I had with the tablet was in the motion control puzzles where you have to rotate the puzzle to move the ball around. It could get awkward at times. But there's only a handful of those in the entire game.

ive only played with the Gamepad in Gamepad Mode, had no problems that I could remember, and any framerate issues anyone has stated wasn't bad enough for me to note.

Same here, I heard this wasn't as big a deal on the Switch because the pro controller has the gyro built in. The Wii U pro controller does not, so I had to get the stupid gamepad every time I had one of those motion control puzzles to do.

That's the only real complaint I had with it. Otherwise I loved the game and I thought it looked insanely beautiful. I doubt the Switch version looks that much better.
