likely windu would have died as quickly as the only 3 Jedi if Palpatine really wanted it.

iirc palpatine actually was beat down by mace windu, whose fighting style is known for its ferocity and blinding speed

you don't see it in the movie because george lucas sucks
but in the novelization I think it's actually made clear that the first few masters were caught off guard, but Mace Windu managed to gain the upper hand

Hard to tell because the movie is so shitty but my interpretation is that Windu would kick Palp's ass in a lightsaber duel but Palp knew that and only fought with lightsabers to get Anakin to join him.

In all the other fights, Palp just throws things and uses electricity

In episode five Vader tried to persuade Luke to overthrow the emperor.

If that's the case, why did Vader stop Luke from killing the Emperor in the Throne Room?

Because he knew Luke wasn't turned?

But Palpatine says that if he strikes him down then he'll have given in and turned to the dark side. Even if Luke didn't join Vader after he kills Palpatine, Palpatine would have died which is what you're saying Vader was conniving to achieve.

He was in episode 5.

If lightsabers don't kill him, then why does he even defend himself in Episode 3? Windu and Yoda would've handily killed him with their lightsabers if he didn't use one too

I diplomat mean that he is immune to light sabers. I mean he can easily defend against them. As he has has and did. Windu was an amazing duelist, and even still The Emperor played with him long enough for Anakin to come so he could use the situation to turn Anakin. And he was even holding Windu back without a light saber.

gafemaqs posted...
How does he know Vader will defend him?

Because he sensed it, and as we've seen he is arrogantly confident in his abilities and plan.

gafemaqs posted...
You would think that if the Emperor thought there was even a 1% chance Vader would've betrayed him that he would've at least been on his guard throughout the whole throne room sequence. Instead... he just kinda lets himself get thrown down a shaft. He doesn't even use his super speed to roll out of Vader's arms and cut him up or nothing.

But the Emperor doesn't think Vader is going to betray him right then. He is still confident that his hold is strong. Strong enough that he can persuade the father to turn the son.

And you can be as fast as you want, but if I lift you off the ground while you are distracted, and toss you down a shaft your speed and skill means nothing.

and people doubt Palpatine's overconfidence and his plans

I have a pretty hard time believing an all-powerful and prescient person like the Emperor allows his decades of scheming to be brought to an end in seconds because he just kind of lets himself die when he could very easily have escaped from Vader. You're telling me he can dodge Luke's saber and force lightning Vader to death in mere seconds with minimal effort but can't be bothered to roll out of Vader's hands. I mean, I accept it I guess but it's pretty weak reasoning.

Typical Sith Lord, gets way too overconfident and forgets that the way for his apprentice to graduate to a master is to kill him. Palpatine did that to his master, then Vader did it to him, that's just the way of the Sith for you

You should read the Vader comics, they get into this dynamic and its really good.

Explain please.
@RebelElite791
Do you know anything about these comics delibird?

At the start of the Marvel Vader/Star Wars runs, Sidious is pretty disappointed with Vader, thinking he doesn't have enough ambition and hasn't lived up to what he wanted for him. Vader, looking for the pilot who blew up the Death Star, hires Fett to find him/capture him/whatever, then finds out his name is Skywalker, and realized Sidious lied to him about Padme's child(ren) dying, and sets out to overthrow Sidious and take the Empire for himself etc etc

He didn't force lighting Vader to death, he just fried his life support. Also, Vader spent years fighting while sidious sat in a chair. Plus Vader had a lot of force power.

Force lightning is also exhausting to over use iirc.

Not really when you think about it.

Like say you're on oxygen and will die without it, so I cut the line and you suffocate. Not the same thing as just strangling you while your oxygen is still on and suffocating you like that.

My headcanon is that Palpatine wanted Luke to replace Vader all along hence the scene in question from ROTJ.

Vader tried to get Luke to join him to avert this in ESB, since he knew that Palpatine would kill Luke if he wasn't turned. Luke saw an opportunity to attack the Emperor but Vader stopped him because he didn't want him to ruin the offer, which is also why he went easy on him.

When Vader was beaten by Luke but he didn't turn, Palpatine thought keeping Vader instead was the better idea, and that's only when he realized he needed to act

Yet it's the exact reason Vader can't really try to take Palps down directly.

All those cybernetics would get fried with the first round of lightning.
