I work for UPS. I've been working 60+ hour weeks since Thanksgiving. There is some weird union loophole that allows UPS to force its workers to work tonight on Christmas AND not pay us at a holiday pay rate or even time and a half. I had been mulling over it for the last few hours and just decided screw it and called in. I got a voice mail inbox and just said I won't be showing up.

Last time I called in was in September. They say you can easily call in once a month no problem at this place. I have over 5 days of sick time saved up so they should be able to use some of that time.

Screw UPS for being greedy and trying to get people to work on Christmas day so they can deliver packages tomorrow. This company is downright awful and I'm sick of working for them. Though yeah I'll probably still be working for them for a couple more years while I finish up with school.

I was in agreement with everything you said until this. If you don't like your job you're more than entitled to look for another job. No one should feel tethered to a job if they can find one they want more.

But if you're going to keep the job anyway, rather than look for a new one, you should at least do the job as expected.

Um what? Where did I say anything about not doing the job? I perform the work as directed. This is the first call in I've had in almost four months. Calling in once a month is fairly standard. We earn sick time at roughly the rate of one day per month plus vacation time and personal days (which I'm out of, only sick time available).

I don't like the job, but I can also see how it can serve me well over the next couple years.
