Or any hard alcoholic beverage in my state.

I was at a UDF at 12:05. Technically that makes it a Sunday, so his scanning system wouldn't let him scan it out.

I brought back a girl drink and asked him if the bible thumpers were ok with it.

I could tell he was offended (I think he was casually religious, not full on Conservative), but you don't get in between an alcoholic and his booze. Eggs have to be broken.

Shit-hio. The same state that just outlawed aborting fetuses with down syndrome.

How am I supposed to get fat without drinking a gallon of 0.5% booze to feel a slight buzz? That's hardly American at all.

I guess I was born in the wrong country. On the upside, carbonated 8% margaritas are pretty damn good. Only $2.50 too, damn. They managed to make alcohol taste good, I didn't think that was possible.

Same thing in a certain city in Texas. Luckily, you can still buy on the military base.

Despite the protests of local liquor store owners across CT, we repealed our blue laws a few years ago. The end result is fucking over small business owners, because the change doesn't represent much in terms of a net increase to business but it's a drastic increase to hours -- and, because of our minimum wage, a lot of small business owners can't afford somebody to work the extra day so they're stuck doing it.

...literally still small government. I'm beginning to think you don't even understand the difference between big and small government.

tbh, if I still lived in Canada, I'd probably also get heavily drunk all the time to forget that I live in Canada =p

Zues UDF is open 24/7, they're not allowed to sell liquor to me on Sunday.

I don't understand how you can equate "not allowed to sell liquor on the day of the Lord" to "giving those poor liquor stores a day off for the economy, thank God I don't live in Canada". That's actually a weird business regulation.

Yes, and it's mostly the grocers and corporations which were responsible for the repeal in my state. They spent huge amounts of money buying politicians to overturn the laws. These same major chains also tried to remove our minimum pricing laws, which would have allowed them to kill smaller businesses. (And I should probably explain -- as a liberal state, we have minimum pricing laws for... whatever reason. I think it's to discourage use. I'm honestly not sure how many other states have minimum pricing laws since I hadn't even heard of it prior to living in CT. )

I don't understand how you could conflate separate conversations and combine them into one. At any rate, I said nothing in regards to any alleged religious influence. I did, however, put out that small liquor store owners OVERWHELMINGLY supported blue laws, particularly in CT -- whereas it was opposed by multi-purpose stores which were open anyway. Finally, I addressed Lokarin's comment by pointing out that you'd need to drink to tolerate living in Canada.

Weird or not, though, it's a good law. Anything which makes people *think* about their alcohol consumption rather than impulse-purchase is a step in the right direction. It's a very minor disruption with the chance at a positive outcome. But you're right that it's weird being only one day. Why would bump it to two days a week? =p

It is a pretty awful state (made worse by Dannel Malloy, a long-time darling of the Democratic party who -- not that long ago -- was ranked among the most progressive governors and today is ranked among the nation's lead popular governors; right now he's second only to Chris Christie). However, it's not the only state with car taxes.

Only property tax in pa is if you own land/a home, everything else is covered by the 6% sales tax, that we pay once at time of purchase. So when I learned ct has to pay some% of the value of anything with wheels, yearly, I was mindblown. Why would anyone in ct buy a new car, ever???? Granted they gotta drive with all the massholes so all the dents devalue em.

Here in Virginia its the same way. Houses, boats, and vehicles all pay an annual tax.

Not sure why you made a fake-quote involving me, but I will say that Clark shouldn't risk any further damage by drinking. It's affected him bad enough as is.

... On one hand I love that as an Aussie I can get a drink at a Pharmacy (Chemist), a gas station or a 7-11 here in America..

... but on the other hand this stupid 1am - 6am law isnt helpful when that's usually the time slot when I need a drink the most.

*Raises glass of bourbon he bought way in advance* Here's to you 24 hour bottle store on Chapel St back home!

Most pharmacies in my area don't sell booze. Always kinda surprised to learn that some do.

Having grown up in a state where only specific stores can sell alcohol, my mind was blown the first time I went to a drug store in another state and saw an aisle full of booze.

I live in Ohio and I can most definitely still buy liquor on Sunday. Just did it on Christmas eve.

There are different rules for different counties.

When I was traveling for work, we would only stop in counties that weren't dry lol. We'd be calling random gas stations in arkansas to find out where we could spend the night AND get liquor
