I tried playing it a few years ago(this time of year 2010 or 2011) but I don't think I got past the first city before I got bored. I've played Oblivion and Skyrim for hundreds of hours, so it isn't the style of gameplay that bothers me.

I know there's like an infinitely long and complicated mod list to improve Morrowind from its base game.

But is there really any reason to play Morrowind? From what little I remember, everything felt super duper dated and even movement felt slow af.

It sounds like the game just requires a level of patience that you don't have. There's no instant travel, you move slower. It's not dumbed down to appeal to the modern gamer, because it's not a modern game. The alchemy system, the number of pieces of armor and clothing you can equip, the spellmaking system, enchanting system, it's incredibly complex compared to modern games.

So an incredibly complex game is bogged down by terrible game mechanics?

it has an interesting main quest. I actually think the story in morrowind is more interesting than the one in Skyrim.

It's worth playing if you want to appreciate Skyrim and Oblivion and if you hate yourself, I guess.

yea, Oblivion and Skyrim kinda have more stereotypical fantasy plots. The one in Morrowind is a little different

The world design is unique, the political intrigue is more interesting than anything in Oblivion or Skyrim, it actually forces you into roles instead of just encouraging you to play it like an action game. Exploration is meaningful and you can find things in caves.

unfortunately the level system for Oblivion and Morrowind has not aged well at all but if you just mod that you should be good to go.

my problem, especially with Skyrim, is every time they could make something a bit deeper or longer, they go for the short route. <_<
