Who should pay for the wedding?

I felt like making this topic because my rich aunt paid for the entirety of my cousin's wedding, and thought that that was kind of dumb. >_>

Anyway, I must have these answers.

Any combination. I always heard something about one set of parents paying, but I think that was an old tradition that's dying these days. The bride and groom are the ones that want a wedding, though. They can make it an elaborate as they want if they use their own money. But I think it would be nice if they also had a little help. I picked combination, but I also think it could depend on the wedding.

imo the bride and groom should pay for their own wedding but lots of people get help from their parents or their parents want to help pay anyway.

Poll is heterosexist.

Anyway, it really depends on a number of variables such as age(s) of the couple, how well established they are career-wise, and whether or not either has had a previous marriage.

also, unless you have lots of money it's a much better idea to save the money. use it on practical things like house/car/etc.

Well, the dictionary seems to think so...

Well, both my sister and I married people whose families didn't have a lot of money, so my dad ended up being stuck with the bill both times.

Actually, we had a very small, relatively inexpensive wedding. Church ceremony with modest reception afterwards, fewer than 20 guests.

I've heard of fiscally responsible grandparents and parents starting wedding funds to pay for weddings so the new couples don't start off in debt.

The grandparents and parents usually aren't capable of affecting the cost of wedding services.

My wife and her aunts built all the flower arrangements. This helped reduce the overall cost but the price of a venue is the price unless you know people or your best man owns the place you got married.

Saving to help your children with their future wedding is very fiscally responsible. If that marriage never happens, that money can be used elsewhere.

The groom and the bride as you know it's them who want to get married. I always found it selfish to expect the farther of the bride to pay for the wedding as tradition states.

Let everyone decide for themselves whether or not they should pay. There are no hard or fast rules here.
