I was actually JUST thinking about that last night for no particular reason.

By "that" I mean the church in Rome. I know this is the internet and I can and will research it as soon as I post this question, but last night while trying to fall asleep, I randomly thought "wait, when was Rome sacked? What was the religion in Rome at the time? Was there a pope yet?"

Thanks for reminding me to look it up, TC!

if Rome had fallen a little sooner, Christianity never would have taken off. The only reason it did was cause it piggy backed off the Roman Empire. Think of a world were the empire fell while it was still pagan. Europe would still be pagan to this day. the US would probably worship the British gods.

Meaning we'd probably have universal single payer health care.

I think this is called the "butterfly effect."

Either that or it would have been taken over and/or heavily influenced by some other monotheistic religion.
