pretty sure you can, but the service will discontinue if the card cannot accept whatever they need to charge to it

Gift cards are supposed to fail the initial authentication when they do an authorization card to check if it's legit. If it does go through, then authorization charge is likely to take a really, really long time to drop off even though it isn't an actual bill.
