I had Papa John's on a whim several months ago. It was absolute garbage. I can't think of a single pizza place that advertises on tv that makes an even okay tasting pizza. They have sub par ingredients all around, cheeses that have no business on a pizza, sauces made with anything but fresh, flavorful tomatoes, and soft, doughy crusts from the freezer.

I can understand how we like bad food when we ate it growing up, but go to a real pizza place with proper, flavorful ingredients and decent ovens and tell me the big chains everybody is familiar with aren't closer to a five dollar frozen pizza from the supermarket than a good pizza.

Came to say this. It really isn't close. PJ doesn't have anything creative. Their veggie toppings are decent, but their crust and cheese tastes gross.

I never had Papa Johns until I moved for college. It was a godsend compared to Pizza Hut and Dominos.

That said, the local Ontario chain Toppers shits all over PJ's. But the hate overall is unwarranted unless you mean their goonbag owner.

I actually quite like Papa John's cheese and pan fried bread. The rest are just standard ingredients, and their sauce sucks.

But yeah the hate for them is super overblown, when their pizzas tend to be as cheap as most fastfood and is probably healthier than mystery meat patties.

the 3 chains near me aren't that bad

I have Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Papa Johns all within like 10-15 minutes drive so when it gets delivered it's usually an hour wait or so.

I used to live downtown and the Papa John's there really sucked ass. Out in the suburbs, it's quite good. Same goes with Domino's and Pizza Hut - they seem to be on their game in better areas.
