I mean seriously people throw these labels around like they'd say the N word or something; why do we as a society all this disrespect of each others' views? What happened to common decency?

Because it makes them feel superior and powerful and all giddy inside

I mean I know why people do it, I just don't know why it's allowed. Why these originally neutral terms have become so full of hate and vitriol

Because we can't come to a full agreement on morality, and our viewpoints seperate people.

Because hate fuels votes and brand loyalty and it's not not just policial, it's religious, race and even gender related, it's why the middle east is such a shitshow, they've been fighting for decades on pure hatred, it's the same with gangs,too.

Because like race, some people have attached their politics to being a defining trait about them as a person so you take any insults or criticism of your politics as a personal insult. Then it's just gotten more toxic over time to where we are now.

Because we are trained to not like each other for so many reasons to prevent solidarity, as that would be a threat to the system. This is the purpose of wedge issues like religion, abortion, race, sexuality, etc. to keep us fighting each other over the crumbs, and not looking together at where most of the pie is going.

Its why we can talk about race but not talk about class. Talking about race, or whatever other 'thing' you are identifying with (**** identity politics), does not threaten the system at all. Seeing yourself as an individual 'identity' helps prevent solidarity with others around you.

To quote George Carlin 'when the middle is focused on hating the bottom the top can continue to take all the money. It's a very simple plan that happens to work very well.'

Or to quote Carl Rove in 2004 when he was working to get Bush 2 reelected 'ultimately I don't care what people think about God, guns, and gays. I just prefer that people think about God, guns, and gays than think about where their jobs went.'
