The game design isn't actually that great, KH is mostly about the novelty.

I mean, there are some huge KH fans that will tell you there is some deep story, but to me it's mostly nonsense mixed with retcons as they "add" to the story.

KH2 was made during the time when random very quick QTEs in the middle of fights with heavy punishments for missing the button presses was "in style".

Also, let's have a crafting system which requires getting very low % drops from rare monsters in a single player game.

This is extremely true.
The story is bad imo.

While it does have some flashy QTEs, they are only mapped to one button, and you don't have to use them for most fights. You aren't heavily punished for missing them either, barring a few boss fights.

This is only true for late/post game gear.
You also don't even need those to finish the story or do well in the majority of the game.

KH has an interesting concept and fun gameplay imo. That's the entire reason I enjoy it so much at least. (Plus it has some pretty good music.)

As for the topic's question. I would save Goofy because the poor guy has already died once in the series.

KH1 is a good game. It's addictive but the combat is limited to hitting things with your keyblade and occasionally using magic. The novelty is good graphics with Final Fantasy characters mixing with Disney in anime like graphics. KH1 has the most clear story out of it's 5 to 6 sequels.

KH2 has beter fluid combat. Chain of Memories is card based combat which makes battles easier and boring. 358/2 days plays like KH1 but without the abilities/summons and Roxas can use a LIMIT which is a powerful meele keyblade attack.
Re:codded is with a command deck where you select which keyblade/magic spells/items to take with you on the field.
Birth By sleep has you playing as three characters. It uses a command deck and you can merge attacks/spells with other spells to create more powerful spells/keyblade attacks.
Dream Drop distance uses a command deck as well.

The story is hard to follow and nonsensical. But the gameplay is AWESOME. If you have a PS3 or PS4 you can get the KH collections.
