Yeah TFA was trash, but so much of it was ripped straight from A New Hope that it made the undiscerning general audience think that the remake is as good as the original. Disney couldn't pull that lazy trick of reusing ideas/whole scenes twice, so now everything rides on the new ideas they came up with. TFA rides on nostalgia, TLJ shits on it.

TFA was a fine movie that suffered from being an exact copy of a very good movie. If you saw it without having seen a new hope, you'd probably walk away enjoying it.

TLJ is a beautiful dumpster fire of bad ideas, worse executions, and character assassinations.

It's like the director they hired to do TLJ disagreed with a lot of the stuff that TFA introduced so he was like "screw it" and just took everything in his own direction. It really made a lot of things that TFA was leading to completely useless.

That's why when you have a trilogy it's usually better to stick to the same group of people who write and direct. Don't have one person direct one film and then have another person who disagrees with everything the first guy did direct the second film. It just creates a huge mess.

I think it's that people were holding out hope for answers to come from this movie, and now they're realizing that this is it, this is what Star Wars is now, and it's mediocre.

TLJ is a lot better than TFA but that doesn't matter as much right now.

Its just that I was so disappointed and I couldnt believe people loved a rehash, low effort cash grab after shitting on Lucas for all those years.

when you copy a movie, beat by beat, with absolutely no original ideas, then abandon the project and pass it off to another directer to deal with...

You cant just plagerize an entire trilogy, at some point you have to write new stuff.

The trilogy was set in stone as a disaster with the release of TFA

They have already planned out a new star wars every year. Every 2 years is going to be an "episode" and every year in between is going to be a side story (Rogue One last year, Han Solo 2018)

Star Wars is the Call of Duty of movies now.

Disney made almost all of their money off plagiarism. The only original shit they have is Pixar movies and some of the TV cartoons like Ducktales.
