I remember when Democrats passed a deeply unpopular piece of legislation back in 2010(Obamacare, which at the time was almost as hated as the Republicans current tax bill). Next election, the 2010 midterms, Democrats got destroyed and lost 63 house seats to the republicans. The 2018 midterms are gonna be fun.

Doesn't matter what the reality of the bill is or what Americans see, it's the perception and the narrative. And the narrative from the start due to shitty GOP messaging has been "Tax cuts for all except the rich will totally get a lot bigger of a cut than you!". And now they're talking about cutting entitlement spending to make up for the money, which is ALWAYS unpopular and has led to numerous political losses for decades. Not to mention the actual increase and effects won't be felt by most people until after the midterm.

I hope Republicans keep pushing through things that are unpopular and ignoring the writing on the wall of an incoming wave election. It totally won't result in them losing control of the House. Believe me.

my understanding is the 2017 return will be under 2017 rules -- people will see smaller witholdings from their employers, so they will see some benefit throughout the year, but most people will make their decisions on the election long before they've seen a full year of the new tax rates

the ACA really wasn't implemented at all until like 4 years after the enabling legislation passed, so you're right that this kicks into effect faster

Nearly all of the tax changes take effect next year, which means the 2017 tax return most people will file in April as well as January payments for those who pay taxes quarterly will continue to follow the current tax code.

23% of the individual tax cuts goes to the middle class. In fact, most rich people will end up owing more.

That's true. That's also not what I claimed at all. Comparing only the House special elections with the results of the districts from last November, Georgia-6 saw a swing of +9.9 points to the Democrats. SC-5 saw a swing of +9.17. And it's showed no sign of slowing down. Maybe after the first few elections you could claim "Oh, it's too early and only one result" or "Oh enthusiasm for Democrats will fade", but considering this has been a trend across the country in a multitude of races for different positions, there's no reason to believe it won't continue.

This doesn't take into account Democrats winning small county seats for the first time in places like Oklahoma, Montana, Kansas, etc as well.
