NBC is in early talks to revive The Office, sources tell Variety.

Series star Steve Carell would not be involved in this new installment, which would continue the misadventures of the officemates at the Dunder-Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment. TVLine first reported news of a possible revival.

Executive produced by Greg Daniels, the original NBC series The Office, based on the British show of the same name, ran from 2005 to 2013. It starred Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Craig Robinson, Mindy Kaling, and B.J. Novak among others. It received a total of 42 Emmy nominations during its run, winning five.

Speaking on Varietys Remote Controlled podcast in November, Fischer had expressed doubt that a new installment of the show would ever take place.

I dont think itll ever happen, she said. I would do it if there was some circumstance where everybody got back together, and could be brought back together in some amazing way, I would say yes. But Im not sure its realistic. The characters, they had arcs. They had growth. Jim and Pam left Dunder-Mifflin. Michael left Dunder-Mifflin. And it would be hard to manufacture why all the people were back working together. And Im not sure the show works if were all in different locations. I immediately start thinking, how did Jim and Pam get back from Austin? And Michaels living with Holly now. It would almost have to be a scenario where its the lost tapes of The Office, where you somehow go back in time and theres all of these lost stories where we weirdly look 5 years older.

But NBC has reason to be in the revival business after successfully relaunching Will & Grace this fall. The new season of that show was one of the networks highest-rated shows of the season thus far and was renewed for another season before the first had even aired.

I would be okay with it, but a special limited episode season. Maybe like 13 episodes and the focus of the season would be them getting ready to meet for a reunion rather than them working together again. We don't actually see the cast altogether until like episode 12. 12+13 will be a 2 parter.

Michael Scott needs to be there though along with Holly.

Hard up for ideas now, I see. lightning doesn't strike twice and Will and Grace was able to come back naturally due to the nature of the show.

I dunno, I really don't think Anchorman has anything to do with anyone's career who is in it. It's just a cult-y sort of B-comedy

40 year old virgin definitely propelled him to new heights, but also, it was released the same year as the first season of the office, so it's kind of hard to say one did it and not the other

It wouldn't be that crazy to get Jim and Pam back. Let's be serious. It makes literally no sense that Jim, who was a slacker with no perceptible skills will be successful in thr sports world. He should reasonably fail and fall back to square one.

No

I think The Office is the greatest sitcom of all time but this is an awful idea

Micheal, Pam, Jim, Darell, Andy, Ryan, Kelly, Stanely, and I think Creed are all supposed to be gone

Whatever storyline they come up with would be ridiculous

What if Michael starts up the Michael Scott Paper Comany again and tries to get them all to work for him again because he misses them and feels unfulfilled at his current job?

Edit: Oh, I forgot that Steve Carell isn't coming back lol

They're talking about finding someone to play the boss, so Dwight will be gone too. I'm also pretty sure that Rain Wilson wouldn't be interested, he's a bit sick people only seeing him as Dwight.

In the early seasons yeah, but he routinely showed he was good at his job as the series progressed. The one thing that was holding him back was his complete lack.of interest in the field. The sports job was his dream, so he's hardly gonna slack off as much.

kinda sucks, there's no point in rebooting the office with new people imo

Oh ok. I meant story wise, but even as far as the actors are concerned it still doesn't sound promising. No Steve, Jenna doesn't sound all that enthused about it and if she doesn't do it there is 0 chance John does it. If whats true about Rainin is true then he's gone too and at that point it barely even the same show

Rather than a reunion that's doomed from the start, they should just make it an all new show, new cast, new company, all of it. It can take place in the same universe and reference Dunder-Mifflin but it should be its own thing.

Why would the camera team go back?

Maybe they do a special or something, visiting the place that made the show (in the show) popular.

It's implied they kept in touch, as he returned a while later and applied for Michael's job when Michael was leaving.
