Because when my dentist flossed my teeth after a filling today, it felt like he was trying to pull my jaw out of my socket and I'm a bit gentler than that.

If it doesn't hurt a little and make you bleed you're doing it wrong

odds are your hygienist is working the floss in deeper than you are, then. make sure you get to the bottom of the tooth and remove the buildup between teeth. doing it yourself, you can do so gentler if you go in and out repeatedly, but your hygienist is trying to work quickly.

I feel like you think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. My entire head jerked up and down as he flossed my teeth <_<

Like this is me flossing:

And this is him:

My guess is that he wasn't so much cleaning them but making sure he yanked out all the stray filling bits.

i understand

and i'm telling you it's for 1 of 2 reasons:

1) your plaque/buildup is really solid and a hard jerk was required to get it out

2) your method is in-out, in-out, in-out until it's slowly worked out, theirs is in-out once to launch it out so they can finish doing your whole mouth faster and move on to next patient

latter option is likely if it's a family dental care

I suppose that's possible, I just find it odd that he'd be removing plaque after the filling. I'd have assumed that you'd want to do that first.
