Perverts and ugly people ruined it for everybody else. In all honesty though, its a stupid idea to use coworkers as a dating pool.

The last sentence of that article says it all,
"My general rule is: If you wouldn't say it to a man, don't say it to a woman. Your best bet is to leave it alone and just say, 'Good morning.' "

Maybe you add a brief smile, but then you walk away.

Anything else is inviting problems, as you don't know how an individual will interpret what you say. Also, avoid nicknames, completely.

*shrugs*

I don't complement anyone's appearance. I'm not nearly savvy enough to determine if someone's outfit looks good, and frankly that's the only kind of complement that wouldn't seem weird just out of the blue anyway.

Pretty much no point in talking to women anymore outside of dedicated social settings. I usually just talk to them like I would talk to a guy, but who knows how they are going to interpret what I say or if they're going to look for "hidden meanings" or whatever. Like how if you're just being friendly a lot of girls automatically think "Oh great, this guy wants to do me. He is probably going to try asking for my number next." When in reality I could not be attracted to her in the slightest and am just trying to pass the time with a little conversation.

That should only apply if they're about your age or younger. Due to social norms most older women won't make that sort of assumption. So basic small talk shouldn't cause any issues.

why? I mean if you want to stay at a company for 50 years it might be a bad idea. but one of the best places to meet employed, educated, hard working women (or men) as at work. i don't plan to stay at any other company for more than 3 years and im an adult, i don't mind working with someone i banged.
