I have one friend on this board who utterly detests Eddv, so it's interesting to me that I so thoroughly LIKE Ed. I think he's a fantastic person with whom I can chat on a variety of the subjects I enjoy. He let me participate in a couple of his Pathfinder games and those really helped get me into the tabletop RPG experience, and he's one of the other users on the board that has a big passion for DC Comics and its characters (there aren't a lot of us these days!). I know that Ed has certain animosity for a couple users I like a lot, and I have no problem saying that his behavior towards those users is completely inappropriate. That said, however, I still like Eddv himself a ton. So there's a strange dichotomy I have with Ed as a person and Ed as a user, I guess.

I think I have no problems with this user. In fact, I think I've even had some good discussions with Kanz in the past. That said, there are some users that all tend to jumble and blend together in my head as "good users" with a question mark afterwards because I have such a hard damn time keeping people straight in my head that don't really make an impact or an effort to talk to me. It's kind of a selfish point of view, but I really commit to memory users who do the same for me.

this is fair, I think most of the Pun Story pre-dates your time on the board. but really it's got everything:
- action (hiding in a cardboard box to spook kids messing with his garbage cans at night. also, on another occasion, I think he was ambushed by wild dogs and had to fight his way to safety? that was Pun, right?)
- drama (after his father died, he fell on hard times and had to make ends meet by eating expired ravioli in his car and selling his games on ebay)
- social controversy (upon his landlord's orders, throwing bricks at baby raccoons who were nesting in the building)
- romance (the saga of Cookie Girl, a girl at work who always baked him cookies (and I think also gave him steak lunches? or was that a different girl))

Probably my least favorite user on the entire board. He's demeaning and insulting to everyone, has no ability to think outside of his own pigeon-holed view of reality, and he believes his form of humor is somehow deserving of undue attention. He's vindictive to other users, provides very little quality content to the board, and derails many topics in efforts to spread negativity and apathy wherever he can. He's all of the worst qualities of Steiner turned up by 1000% with none of the positives. He is just a liberal Ulti to boot. He has no desire to serve as a functioning part of a board - as the board has evolved, he has not. He remains trapped in this raging teenager persona forever, living a life based on the tenet that being disengaged is noble, that belittling is of paramount value to the board, that being reproachful and sarcastic always is the only way.

Jeff Zero

I used to be a huge fan of Jeff Zero. Here was a guy who knew certain immutable truths - Star Trek is good, Dragon Age is good, Bioware is good... and Jeff could back up these opinions with sass and charm. But the problem with Jeff Zero slowly became evident: he didn't exist. Not when people needed him most. Where was Jeff in the first part of the year? Where was Jeff when the Star Trek ranking petered out? I will grant you that everyone needs a break from the board every now and again, but it was clear that there was a flaw to this otherwise noble man. And like the tiniest imperfection in a windshield, it slowly caused my entire view of Jeff to become impeded. The crack was showing. And before you knew it, reality shattered quite loudly and visibly. Dragon Age: Inquisition needed to be defended. It needed a champion. Not only did it need a champion, but it deserved one. But when the horns sounded out, striking the plaintiff cry of a Ferelden in despair, there was no response. In quite desperation, we waited for the rally that never came. Jeff Zero would not defend the defenseless this day. And as one, we all turned our backs on Jeff Zero in that moment, for we knew that Jeff Zero no longer had the interests of his people at heart. Jeff Zero had abandoned us.

I know some people like Joseph Gordon-Levitt can pull off assassinating political leaders, but it's not a good look for Rock. Is Rock a vigilante on the level of the Comedian? No. Furthermore, I feel like Rock would go after someone and miss, like the guy who shot Jed Bartlett at Roswell. Or he would be put down like Gary Oldman when he got destroyed by Michigan alumni President Harrison Ford.

All in all, Rock has sunk in my estimation for this callous display of bloodthirsty warmongering.

I once said you (Chris) had the most literary potential of any "character" on Board 8. I don't necessarily stand by that - I think it diminishes you as a person to try to psychoanalyze you. I do find your behavior in a Save My at this point to be almost bullying at this point. Is it because I am upset that I don't win Save Mys? Not really. And kudos for you on playing the game and playing it well. Lord knows I don't have the attention span to stick out a Save My. And in all honesty, I'm happier not finding unusual ways to wheel and deal on the board. I think you skirt the line that ignores the spirit of the law from time to time in the game, and if winning is your only pursuit in a Save My, then it works. But I think it shows your true colors when it comes to competition. And yes, this is coming from the guy that once lit Poke on fire with an infamous one-turn betrayal. But let's be honest: Poke had it coming.

I'm ultimately torn because while I don't particularly care if you use unique tactics to achieve a win, the playerbase has become smaller over time and those that do play have become increasingly disenchanted with the notion of how your play works. It does involve to a large degree your own popularity working for you rather than tactics alone. I can see why that bothers people. I mean, it bothers me naught because Cid Highwind is going be Cid Highwind until such point as Charon bullies me into giving up on Cidpics (due to return as Cindypics at LeonhartFour's request).

What I don't like most about you in Save Mys, however, is your post-round gloating. I think it is not only unwarranted, but it's oftentimes stale. Thank god you don't post Luca Blight gifs anymore; you've evolved! But what I enjoy is to see unique banter that comes across as rivals on equal playing fields. What I see from Chris - and it's possible it's just your posting style - is someone who sits on high and flicks pieces off of a chessboard. Then when the piece hits the ground, you toy with people to sate what I've got to imagine would be a personality made for the bloodthirsty politics of ancient Rome.

All of that said, of course, by a guy who once pissed off everyone with a terrible movie poster lampooning joke characters in SMFFFC.

Anyways, those are rambling incoherent thoughts on Chris in Save Mys.

Vlado

A pretty weak user in general. He never addresses arguments against him when he's proven wrong (something foolmo has done quite frankly), and the cognitive disconnect in him between his personal dislike of something and it's moral turpitude is quiet staggering. I've never seen someone have such a hard-on for killing Star Wars - a franchise which helps to employ thousands of people - simply because he doesn't like Disney. Disney, a company which really has very little to do with Star Wars aside from advertising and distribution (and funding). It's one thing to not like something, but like other users on this board (Ulti), he wishes for hard-working people to loser their jobs because of nonsense.

And let's be honest, no one knows what the point of the acrostic abbreviations are. What does the following mean:

BTFO
T
F
O

I don't understand the validity of this. This is what the English language becomes in the hands of someone who cannot speak it properly. I often wonder if he put as much effort into his own country and culture as he does into mine (well... not mine, because I'm from Texas, not the USA), if it would still be the lowest ranked country in Europe in the Press Freedom Index. If it would still be one of the poorest first world countries. If it would still be consistently in the hands of despots who curtail economic prosperity and liberty for their people. It really is a shame that Vlado is so unhappy that he wishes unhappiness on other countries so that they can share in his pain.

This is an interesting discussion, because I largely agree with you in everything but tense, as I think much of that is past tense (much, anyway, not totally!)

I think when you say Save My you mostly mean FF since I tend to be usually uncaring in Disney aside from maybe one year. So let me explain how I got into SMFF to begin with as it wasn't something I even noticed at all until Marche/Light one year where I may have not even voted or anything but I was like 'wtf FFTA sucks' and then I was around the following year.

I have a friend, her name is Joy, and she calls me her Just Hufflepuff. I love her with all of my heart and would take a bullet for her and she is squarely right in that description of me. I operate under my own sense of justice. It can be skewed, it can be corrupted with my emotions, but I have always sought just outcomes as best as my perception allows them to be. When I was a child I saw the Red Wings lose a heart breaking series in the WCF to the Blues (90 or 91) and decided to root for them since they had lost and that was sad. Cue a dynasty.

Same reason the Cubs drew me. They were so sad and not good I wanted them to do well so I rooted for them.

I have always loved a good underdog story. I have always, in my own often skewed view, tried to make things fair and good. So I remember clearly the moment where I cared about SMFF.

It was the day Inviso mocked Steiner the year Zack won the contest. I think it was mnk, maybe not, was asking for support for him. Inviso comes strolling in and just mocks the poor guy and that... pissed me off. It really did. I had characters I liked more and from then on I went "Fuck that, Steiner is going to beast one day." It's silly motivation, I realize. How absurd to care that much over a random thing but like most people I used it as a chip on my shoulder to motivate me to competition. Except, you know, Board 8 Save Mys don't matter whereas I could have used that chip elsewhere.

Much of the rest is history. I let my mood on any given day sway what I do. Sometimes there's no need for words, sometimes I wanted to inflict insult to injury and pour as much salt into the wound as possible. If I was bitter about something else I'd be sure to inflict that bitterness onto someone whom I felt deserved it that day.

The problem in mafia. The problem in Save Mys. The problem with any board competition is that a motivated Chris is capable of a lot of really great things in his life, and when he wastes his time on meaningless things of course he isn't going to have rivals on an equal playing field - because no one should give half as much of a fuck as I have done in years previous.

It's why this year I just saved Red Mage and then just saved Cloud, although I do admit I took the time to kill one character but really insulting my main the day I have a 103 fever Nanis did have that one coming a little bit.

I will say though Steiner utterly crushed because of Gravy though. Dude would not leave me alone to ensure victory. Scary dood.

So here's the cognitive disconnect between you and me, I think. I think you do put a lot of effort into Save Mys, but some of the effort is being put into other Save Mys or into the popularity contest that is Board 8. I think that's pretty much undeniable. And unlike Inviso, I don't care if someone is popular and able to use that to sway someone more easily into taking a deal. You took a deal with gravy (for lack of a better term) because you liked him. Popularity at its most basic, right? Where other people time and time again complain about you is that you have a popularity that you are perceived to use as a weapon.

At my old job before I took over the comic shop, there was this woman who directed the children's choir - Bethann. Bethann was extremely popular in the church. She was boisterous, an attention-grabber. And she was somehow charismatic enough to turn a choir into a little cult of personality. Bethann used this popularity to foist her husband onto the church council and to befriend a new pastor who had extremely power-hungry pursuits. Bethann weaponized her popularity so that if you disagreed with her husband's choices on the church council, it was dangerous to say so. It would get back to them if you voiced disagreement. Many spies have many eyes.

When people say to me, "So-and-so is able to play this Save My as a popularity contest," a red flag goes up in my mind. Danger, scarlet! So while objectively I don't care, you're treading on thin ice because this board has proven that popularity consistently trumps anything else in a Save My. Two deals are offered, only one will be taken, and it's the one that USUALLY comes from the guy someone likes more.

I know you have extenuating circumstances you would flaunt here, but suffice it to say that what is perceived for most people is reality, and the reality perceived by many in Save Mys is that Chris weaponizes popularity and carefully circumvents rules to win.

So you've got all of that going for you, and then we come down to the most important factor in Save Mys for me, and that's your post-match style. I get your point of view, but it holds no water for me in this regard. You can pour your salt, you do you, you go get 'em, Tiger. I'm going to be of the point of view that when it came to Nanis, you should have said nothing after that round. The gloat to me was just so petty and I expect more out of you. What's scarier than saying something? Saying nothing and letting be said by everyone else. What makes the Joker frightening? Not what he does, but what he could do. The scariest Joker moment is always when his cell is empty. The least interesting Joker moment is always when he explains his plan and tells Batman he'll never win.

Anyways, more rambling incoherent thoughts and I've barely talked about Chris as a non-Save My-er yet!

There are a lot of users here that it genuinely surprises me that you don't have much to say on (especially neon and Boko)

Then again, I guess that even within the board, we've run different circles for basically the entire time either of us have been here.

I think it speaks more to all of you then me, because of course I'm the center of the known universe so you should have at least crossed my path, right?

Honestly, it speaks to how segmented the board is. Cliques do exist, but it's more out of natural development than anything else. Board 8 is generational, and I stand by the fact that generally speaking, being here 8 years or more is one generation and being here 7 years or less is another. The two don't have a lot of overlap. Nowadays, you get grandfathered into one or the other.

I think it says a lot about you that I offered you a deal in SMDC and you upheld it with a lot of honor and genuine care. So much so that when we discussed the future, both you and I were thinking more along the lines that my side of the deal was being part of a team rather than just fulfilling a trade. That's just your personality though, as I've come to learn. You're a community sort of person. That kind of attitude, the attitude to think of people as potential friends rather than names on a message board, is impressive. It's what we need more of. I wished you posted more often in a variety of topics - I think you're a generally insightful person and you've got a kind disposition to boot.

Looking forward to a Bear run in the next SMDC (with a hint of Hermes)!

This user has never interacted with me, and I'm not even entirely sure who this is.

He goes by Majin Zidane

I've seen this username, but I couldn't for the life of me think of one single unique thing this user has said or done that would warrant me committing anything about this user to memory.

Let me direct you to the single most important moment of my entire life:

Oh you play mafias! That's probably why I never run into you. I've never really been interested or tried that side of Board 8.

Okay in fairness I didn't say anything and it took drak and FFD to go "wait did Chris kill Zidane" and then I admit I couldn't resist. Fair point on STYLE post rounds, very fair point.

Als if anything I weaponized people's love of Rydia. Championing Rydia for Shoe that one year opened a lot of doors for favors because Rydia is super beloved and also really hot that helps.

But yeah popularity always helps. I feel like that's the nature of the world though. You do things for people you like if it can also benefit you. The classic win/win. I can earnestly say if anyone thinks I weaponized my popularity this year when my only long term agreement was with MWC that they are seeing ghosts.

I think popularity on Board 8 is more insidious than the real world though. Big names have a pull like gravity. And let's be honest - in a Save My, I would flat out bet money that MWC is more popular than a Charon or Inviso. Swear to God, he'll do better.
