Just got off the phone with my mother. Apparently, their ISP sent them a notice because my sister was torrenting Game of Thrones. My father, who is a fucking idiot, has them all convinced that they are going to lose their internet forever, and the FBI is going to arrest them all and confiscate all their belongings as well as their home. She asked me if I know an "internet fraud lawyer", which my father is completely sure they are called.

I once confined MY father that our internet was extra fast on his computer because the Ethernet cable we used for his was wider than mine and that allowed more internet to get through it thus having increased speeds. He ended up taking 2 Ethernet cables to his rig and having then both plugged in so it would be even FASTER. In reality his was only faster because he used direct connection and everyone else was wireless :p.o.

Yeah, the difficulty in verifying who is doing the piracy and the accuracy of it is why Canada only has a notice-and-notice system. It's pretty toothless, but the alternative is the very real possibility of someone getting hit with fines for something they didn't do and presumption of guilt isn't how things should be done.

Devil's advocate, I've had a few pre-builts(like, off the shelf Walmart/Best Buy pre-builts) with multiple Ethernet ports. Usually a motherboard port, and a port on an additional wireless/ethernet card. Not common, but not unheard of.

Devil's advocate, I've had a few pre-builts(like, off the shelf Walmart/Best Buy pre-builts) with multiple Ethernet ports. Usually a motherboard port, and a port on an additional wireless/ethernet card. Not common, but not unheard of.

Prebuilts can have multiple Ethernet ports pretty commonly. Not too hard to find.

It's a scam. People put trackers on torrents then contact isps claiming to represent the intellectual property holders collector for infringement. They threaten the isp who gives them your info then they threaten you into giving them your checking account info

My dad got something like that. I think he was actually worried but luckily he didn't do anything with it and called me. I happily went to his house to remove it and told him to never fall for anything like that. I guess he is lucky he has a son who cares about him rather than alot of people in this topic
