I think from a marketing stand point it makes sense not to. People WILL burn out of SW at some point, even those of us who are psychotic fans will reach a point of over saturation.

Let TLJ play out, then begin promoting the next one. This has been the pattern LF and Disney has been doing anyway so far. It's only because the turn around time between movies is much closer now compared to TFA-RO-TLJ that you're even noticing this.

Also, most importantly, Solo probably sucks. Why do anything that can take the wind out of TLJ which is both a good movie and a huge money maker. Solo will be what it is. Come and go and make disney a couple bucks even if it's a mess and never discussed again.

Historically they've always been in May, but since Disney bought Lucasfilm they've been doing holiday launches. Initially the plans for these movies at Disney has always been to transition back to summer, but Disney doesn't care about delaying them and keeping them as Dec releases if necessary.

infinity war trailer came out on nov 29, 2017. set for release on may 4, 2018. that's 5 months and 5 days
solo is set for release on may 25, 2018. 5 months and 5 days from there would be dec 20, 2017
so next week maybe we'll get something

but I fully expect it to get pushed back to christmas

Also nothing to back this up, but if Solo IS a hot mess, I wouldn't surprised if Disney did release it in May. Just to get it out there, and move on from it, and then let even more time pass between it and IX to let the hype build again.

For sure. Obviously if Disney thinks they can save the film with even more reshoots, they will push it back. If they can't I think just dumping in it may makes sense. Even with a big success like TLJ it is going to reach the point of diminishing returns. The extra 6 months of breathing room can help prevent fatigue, especially if it is a piece of crap.

RO wasn't perfect, but it was solid. Maybe Solo will be too, who knows? Just thinking about it.

There have never been two Star Wars movies come out within five months of each other, and you don't just start promoting a big expensive Disney Star Wars movie only four months before it comes out. People aren't going to forget to go see TLJ because they saw a Han Solo trailer. So yes it's weird.
