Israeli's half of Jerusalem is safe, for all people to walk around in no problem. Jew, Gentile, Christian, Muslim, Atheist. ALL ARE FREE to do, come and go as they please. However once you get to the Palestinian side of Jerusalem. You need protection. If you're not an Arab/Muslim sympathizer, you're a target for violence.

A friend of mine - Jewish, born and raised in Canada - went to visit Israel a few years ago. He said he actually felt more welcome in the Palestinian parts of Jerusalem (his impression was that Israeli Jews tend to have a bit of a superiority complex when interacting with non-Israeli Jews).

The Six-Day War was one of the first ever uses of so-called "preemptive defence" - AKA the same justification the US used to launch the Second Gulf War - that a nation can claim self-defence while striking first. And that's exactly what Israel did - it launched a series of preemptive strikes against Egypt and wiped out their air force despite the fact that the two were not at war at the time (though Egypt had been marshalling its forces). The conflicts against the rest of the belligerents can mostly be chalked up to some really bad leadership/planning on the part of the Arab nations.

You know that ~10% of Palestinians are Christian, right? "Palestinian" is a national group, not an ethnic or religious one.

I mainly don't get how the people that side with the Palestinians think they're completely innocent in this conflict. The Palestinians are the aggressors in this conflict and people seem to think that the Israelis should just roll over and take it as opposed to taking defensive action.

I won't say those people don't exist, but in my experience most people on both sides of this argument acknowledge that both sides have done (and continue to do) shitty things. Only the truly delusional insist that "their side" is completely innocent of any wrongdoing.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians were forcibly evicted from lands they legally owned and to this day have been barred from returning. Famously (thanks to them being used as code names in the Munich Massacre), two Christian villages were promised the right of return (ruled by Israel's Supreme Court), only to be denied by the Israeli military. Famously, the Israelis waited until the villagers were returning (on Christmas day, if memory serves) and were in sight of the village before launching an artillery barrage that basically flattened every single building in the village while the villagers looked on. And this is before getting into the fact that Israel has settled or is settling lands that do not legally belong to them.

To simplify this down as one side being "aggressors" and the other being defenceless victims is overidealistic bullshit.

That is good to hear. I generally avoid politics but the few times that I am exposed to them are strong left and right echo chambers.
