Dammit got another legendary, but it was currency. Might be a dozen or so boxes before I see another legendary now. Was hoping it was the puppy emote or Bastion skin

Had an amazing Hanzo game I ended up losing. I head shot a Tracer so many times she switched. Ended up with like 8/15 kills being critical hits. Once we lost the first checkpoint on Junkertown we got steamrolled

Only legendary I got with my free boxes was Orisa's emote, not bad.

These characters don't require a ton of skill to use moderately well:
Soldier 76
Mercy
Lucio
Reinhardt
Junkrat

Obviously someone with more skill can still use them better than someone with less skill.

I'd start by using characters in the training room so you can see what abilities they have and get a general feel for them. Soldier 76 is arguably the most newbie friendly character since he plays about the same as a standard fps character. Characters are split up by classes and they're all important with some of them sort of filling dual roles.

There are 3 types of maps. One of them is a payload style where you have to "escort" a vehicle to the end of the map. Enemy characters will try to prevent you from doing this and the payload only moves when no enemies are contesting. The second type of map is King of the Hill. There will be an objective point on the stage and the goal is to capture it and reach 100%. The third type is a hybrid of the two and involves capturing an objective first and then escorting the payload to the end of the stage. As for characters

Offense - these guys are your main source of team damage. They're almost all pretty straight forward aside from Doomfist who is considered very hard to use well and Sombra who also takes some decent strategy to use effectively. Some of them are flankers or good at stopping enemy flankers.

Defense - this class includes snipers and crowd control characters. They're generally good at holding an objective down or preventing enemies from easily getting there. Most people complain about the snipers because it can be fairly difficult to be effective with them to the extent that you couldn't have done just as good or better with a different character.

Tank - these guys are mostly designed to soak up damage and push an objective. Most of them have barriers to protect themselves and the team from damage.

Healers - these guys heal your team and keep them in the fight. You pretty much always want at least one of them on your team. Some of them are fairly good at defending themselves and others you'll want to do your best to keep protected.

How is Reaper for a new player? He seemed relatively simple when I was playing him in training earlier but not sure if I was overlooking something

DVA also seemed cool too.

Honestly, you can play whoever you want. Different characters click with different people. DVA and Reaper are both among my favorites to play, though I didn't like Reaper that much at first.

Reaper has some serious weaknesses against some characters, but hes not complicated and is very strong against some characters. Hes most useful for killing tanks.

I main Reaper, I think he's good for a new player for kills and also for survivability. You may not find the teleport too useful at first but once you get used to map layouts and obscure routes you'll also be one of the most mobile heroes around.

This is the best advice. Just experiment with different characters. You're bound to find a few that work for you. I'm not a FPS guy either and I found Soldier 76, DVA, and Zenyatta some of the first I could play moderately well.

Oh yeah here's one basic advice. There's a ninja in the game called Genji. He has an ability called Deflect that can deflect close to every attack in the game so if you see an animation where it looks like he's swinging a blade around in front of him don't shoot at him unless you're Zarya or Winston because he will Deflect all the bullets, rockets, etc right back at you. You'd be surprised how many times people fall for it >__>

All this time later I still think Valkyrie is the single worst change in the game. It's pretty much the difference between losing and winning every time a Mercy is in the match

Seems like playing against AI is best way to learn characters before playing for real. Forces me off Reaper as well as he's always Insta taken from what I've seen but I'm clearly better with him and Soldier than the others I've tried. Not tried any tanks yet which is probably next step

I rarely see Reaper get instataken. The most common instataken characters I see are Junkrat, Genji, and the snipers. Sadly, three of them suck when used by bad players.

Junkrat is at least somewhat useful when used by a terrible player. Snipers are totally useless, and Genji is the worst.

Had to switch to my US PSN account because the 10 loot boxes I got with the game wouldn't activate on the EU account. Typically I only got 1 Legendary out of the 10 (free with game) + 6 (login bonus) + 7 (Leveling up) whereas on my EU account I got 2 Legendaries in the first 10 boxes (4 from level, 6 from login). Probably need to keep using my US account though as it's a pain in the ass to add funds for EU PS Plus from the states.

More game related question. How many heroes do you actually have to get good with? Like 2 from each category or is 1 from each category enough?

Also where on earth does the lore come from? I see on the wiki characters have backgrounds and I see on reddit people discussing storyline. But I don't see where I actually find out any of the story in game? Or isn't there anything in game and it's all supplementary materials?

It's in the supplementary material. Online comics and stuff.

Moira is very good so it's not hard to get golds. Your orbs can rack up a lot of eliminations and objective eliminations. If you're the only healer you're obviously getting gold healing and objective time is also fairly easy to get. If you mean Gold Damage 4 times in a row your team is doing bad >_>

Damage is one of those goods, yes.

Moira can do a fair amount of damage, but yeah you really shouldn't have gold damage with her especially if your team has like any good dps. I hate how people don't seem to get how Moira plays. It's not easy for her to go out of her way to heal you, people don't follow her orbs to get the most HP regen possible and they also can't tell when your meter is out. The last one is especially annoying when someone is spamming they need healing, but you haven't done enough damage to give them a good heal spray

Oh, they changed it so you respawn as the same character in Mystery Heroes if you suicide. Guess that mode is dead.

Mystery Heroes is still fun. They probably did it because people were suiciding until they got somebody they were good with which defeats the point and could also take up most of the match time. Now if you get somebody like Widow you can just run into the enemy team and die >_>

I mean yes, Widow is the issue. As we all know, no decent human being play Widow on console because that's the same as throwing.

I only like playing Widowmaker in Mystery Heroes since she can take out the really annoying enemy heroes you don't want the enemy team to have in that mode, like Mercy (or any healer really), Torbjorn or Symmetra.

In a regular match I can't get enough kills with her to do any good, but one good headshot on a Mercy is worth everything in Mystery Heroes.

In my experience, people were more likely to kill themselves because they got a healer in mystery heroes than because they got Widowmaker, so it's definitely a change for the better.

They said it was promotional and they didn't own the cutouts so couldn't sell them to me.

Augh, I got Bastion's legendary skin. I really don't like the way it looks. The only neat thing about it is the owl and it's not like you see it that often.

I got Yeti Winston, so that's and the walrus were the only ones I really wanted. (I also got Elf Tracer, but who cares about that?)

I kind of want Santa Torbjorn, but nothing really beats the Pirate. Junkrat's is cool, but I don't want to drop the coins on it. A small part of me wants the Ice Sombra, but not because I'll use it but only because I have every single one of her other skins and it feels like I should complete the collection.
