Ooh, is this the newest edition of "Ulti watches wrestling once a year and pretends he knows anything"

I like how people have mostly stopped responding to him in the politics topics, so he has to enter other topics just to be a total dick to people since his life is so sad he can't find validation anywhere else and has to try to make himself feel better

That TV deal expires next year and they report quarterly earnings with OIBDA stats, which are easy to fudge and smart investors avoid those companies like the plague. I can guarantee you WWE will not get a good TV deal next time around, and this stuff trickles down. Ring of Honor murdered itself tonight by catering to these soy boys.

Virtually everyone says that WWE will get a great deal and it has nothing to do with what you're talking about. It's the deal after next they need to worry about. USA can't hold a rating to save its life and WWE is the only thing it has that consistently pull in more than a million anymore. This has nothing to do with Dalton Castle. This has everything to do with no Burn Notice.

Means jack shit. Kane and Billy Gunn wrestled on the highest rated Raw ever.

The segment I refer to was an 8.4. It was higher rated than "This Is Your Life". I guess that means casuals hate the Rock, who only scored a 6.1 in that bomb.

Yeah, agreed. One time, Friends had a grown man in an armadillo costume and it only pulled in 22.1 million viewers and they cancelled that show immediately on the spot and it did not run 4 more years.

Scarborough's study is an objective fact. Try again.

They have been so accurate historically that they are now a Nielson service. Thankfully, facts don't care about your feelings.

Scarborough's study did not call the fans "complete losers." I believe that was a statement made by you.

Facts don't care about your feelings. You care about your feelings. And you plaster them as facts and pretend that your feelings can be used in conjunction with facts to support whatever mid-life crisis stalling post you need to blather on about in a subject you know nothing about anymore. Wrestling has passed you by. Wave at it.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the more I witness Ulti's behavior, the harder it seems to me to think of him as anyone other than a darkly hateful individual. Not for his politics, but his lack of politics. They shift as if he wants to be a singular chameleon, always on the right side of an argument to be the victim. One of the worst aspects of the board for me has been Ulti endorsing me as a good user - I think that sealed the deal for me that I am, in fact, not. If he believes himself to be the definition of a good user and yet thinks that lying and manipulating people to constantly give him more chances so he can sucker them into having further debate with him just so he can pull the rug out from under them to laugh, then I know that whatever I am, it's not a good user.

Imagine hating a user so much that you hate yourself if that user gives you a compliment. This is the Board 8 version of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

I could cure world hunger and 80% of Board 8 would starve themselves to death if it meant they got to disagree with me, which is frankly an awesome feeling. Literally fucking obsessed.

The study is objective fact. Your first statement is not objective fact. Try again. "Complete loser" is the definition of a nonfactual statement. Your opinion of a complete loser is defined by a study, which is fine, but also an opinion.

Opinions can be based on facts or emotions and sometimes they are meant to deliberately mislead others. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the author's purpose and choice of language.

Nielson numbers don't lie

You spelled Nielsen wrong, and Nielsen numbers don't account for alternate viewing habits and for years did not account for +7 habits and similar habits which is why a show like Arrested Development can be resurrected 10 years later.

Unless Nielson Clap Emoji is a company that exists.

Also, media fragmentation viewing is a serious problem that causes Nielsen ratings to be misreported - notably anyone who fast forwards through or skips commercials. This can account for up to 34% of a show's audience in some instances.

Stuff like this happens at least once a month, and Metzler fans love to ignore this about him because admitting it would mean admitting he doesn't know jack shit.

"Jack shit" suggests he knows absolutely nothing, which is factually inaccurate. If you want to claim your entire argument (which has now shifted to Dave Meltzer, an individual who has no ties to nor has been brought up in this argument except by you to deflect from the part of the argument where your incapability of separating facts from opinions derived from facts was demonstrated) is about Dave Meltzer now, I will be happy to follow you along because, quite frankly, my roommates are watching an episode of The Good Wife that I don't particularly enjoy. But Meltzer is not the point of this argument. I'm simply pointing out how contextually you consistently attempt to be intellectually dishonest as part and parcel with pushing a narrative built around an opinion being accepted by you as a fact - and quite an opinion, given that it attempts to besmirch all wrestling fans because you do not like the winner of the 6th biggest company title in the world (or lower possibly!).

I have hated wrestling fandom ever since the smarks infected it, although they're thankfully finally leaving in droves. All that catering to them over the years and it's accomplished nothing whatsoever, largely because smarks literally can't afford to support the product. Casuals have always driven markets.

There is no such thing as a smark, according to many wrestlers. Kevin Nash, for example, a multi-decade veteran at the highest level of the sport, claims that smarks are just marks. In my opinion, this is completely true. Wrestling is, at its core, a story. People who denigrate the other viewers of the story aren't understanding that it's all storytelling. Some people like Tyrion Lannister. Some people like Jon Snow. Some people like Jorah Fucking Mormont. None of them are wrong. What IS wrong is thinking that an opinion on a form of entertainment is so damnable that it allows someone to stand above those around them.

Casuals have never drive the markets. If you watch wrestling, you're a mark. If you have ever paid for wrestling ever, you're a mark. Either you're a mark, you're in the business or you have nothing to do with it. There's no middle ground. Ulti, you are, in the end, a mark. The moment you care, you become a mark. If the business is still real to you, if you give a single shit about the direction economically the business is going, then you've been roped in by the Attitude Era and you continue to slurp down the nectar of markdom. There's no escape from it. A Mark... is you.

Hell, I wasn't going to get involved in this, but against my better judgment I feel like I have to.

I'll touch on ROH first. It doesn't really matter if you don't like Dalton Castle. I don't even like Dalton Castle much. Honestly, I don't like ROH in its current form very much. I'm very much removed from the new breed of ROH fans that go to shows in their Bullet Club shirts and pay $30 to take a picture with the Young Bucks and 2Sweet Cody. I was part of the barricade-slapping, Final Countdown-singing, DVD-buying old guard that loved how underground the whole thing was. I loved when Gabe Sapolsky would randomly decide to add his horrendous commentary to the show and scream DANGEROOOOOUS at the top of his lungs at fairly basic moves. I loved watching Austin Aries go off on profanity-laced tangents at random fans during his promos. I loved that half the time they ran buildings lit so poorly and used cameras so cheap that you could barely tell what was going on.

Sinclair-era ROH is virtually unrecognizable from the ROH I loved. They still put out good stuff most of the time. Their weekly show is probably the best one running in wrestling. But it's not for me. Dalton Castle also is not for me.

But that's alright, for two reasons. Number one, ROH isn't dead because they put the belt on him. ROH has never been healthier. They're doing their best business ever, far beyond what me and the other DVD-buying diehards could ever bring them to. Number two, there's plenty of other companies out there that are for me. A lot of them. There's close to two-dozen different companies on my list of companies that have had a match I considered MOTYC-level this year. And more and more fans are realizing that great stuff like that which appeals directly to their tastes as wrestling fans is out there now. You know what that translates to? More wrestlers getting steady bookings and getting to do what they love.

Variety is only a good thing for wrestling. Remember the Monday Night Wars? That came because people wanted variety. We're never going to see a competitor like WCW to the WWE machine again (unless Mark Cuban decides he wants to throw his weight behind NJPW), but we do have alternatives, and that's just as good.

I went to an indy show a couple months ago in Austin, TX where I got the chance to talk to a wrestler who told me, in no uncertain terms, that he wouldn't be wrestling if the wrestling environment was more like it was even just five years ago. He loves wrestling, and he's getting the opportunity to wrestle because those smarks that you hate have demanded, in their collective voices, for something different.

Smarks are bad for wrestling? Nah. They're bad for WWE. And the WWE never wanted them anyway. You claim they catered to them? Give me a break. Yeah, they gave Punk a title reign where he hardly ever main evented a show and succumbed to the overwhelming pressure that led to WM30. Other than that, it's been business as usual. Wrestling fans are known to be the lowest common denominator because WWE made them that way. The entire product is predicated on making sure complete idiots can understand it. You're mixing up the cause and effect. Of course all the smart people stopped watching - their intelligence is being insulted every segment!

And by the way, smarks can very much afford to support products they want to. Companies are going out of their way to make it affordable. demandPROGRESS, which incorporates shows from a half dozen companies, is $7.50 a month. NJPW World is just under $9. Highspots Wrestling Network is $10, and there's literal years worth of content there. And the list goes on. You can rent most shows for 24 hours for 5 bucks. And even the precious WWE network is only, as Michael Cole and all the other robots love to remind folks, $9.99. There's no problem with affordability. People are just more choosy about what content they actually feel deserves their money.

Going after The New Day, of all acts, shows exactly how out of touch you are, and I say that as someone who never liked them at all, even when I was still watching WWE. Who cares if fans think they're entertaining? THAT'S WHAT WRESTLING IS! GETTING OVER IN WHATEVER WAY YOU CAN! You're supposed to present wrestlers that fans want to buy a ticket to see, that they want to buy merch for. If you accomplish that by having goofballs prance around dressed like unicorns, fine! Whatever works, do it. Even if I think it's dumb.

You have become the old man yelling at the cloud. You have become Seymour Skinner, convinced that it's the children who are wrong. You have become Jim Cornette, angrily shaking your fist and yelling into a microphone about how PWG is killing the business, because you simply cannot understand that the business has passed you by. You hang on to the Steve Austins of yesteryear and fail to grasp that the only reason he was even so successful in the first place is because the all planets aligned so perfectly. There will never be another Steve Austin, but that's not because of smarks. It's because every factor that led to Steve Austin simply could never be replicated.

I could've been just like you. I could've lamented the end of the ROH golden years and blamed all the new fans for being too stupid to understand what used to make the company great. Instead, I just accepted that all wrestling companies change and evolve as the business itself does. In another ten years, it'll look very different again. And that'll be okay, too. Fans that don't like it can go somewhere else. And wrestling will be much the better for it.

You can talk down to smarks all you want, but just realize that by doing so, you're effectively saying you want the whole wrestling business to die. And maybe you do, I don't know. Maybe you hate it all so much that you do want thousands of people everywhere to suddenly be unemployed. But I find that pretty repulsive.

One last note. I disagree with scarlet on one point. We're not all marks. We're all smarks. The literal definition of a smark is a wrestling fan who knows it's fake. Nothing more or less. You're in this topic, you're a smark. And that's okay.
