Or radio calls technically...

I've played this game so many damn times and thought I heard 'em all.

That game has an astonishing amount of stuff that the majority of players will never even see.

I love all the little details in the MGS games. 3 is especially good in this regard I feel. 2 maybe has more, but 3 has some brilliant ones.

Some of the SIGINT convos are great, like the (in)famous box one. I like the one about the Patriot, when you have it early in the game and he's like, "How the fuck do you have that if The Boss... nevermind."

This one:

Hmm, he doesn't spell things out as much as I remember, but it's clear what he's hinting at.

It sucks that 4 and V gutted the codec. OK, it's not totally realistic in the way it works, but it's such a big source of great moments and details.

you can call someone and theyll have something new to say after nearly any moment of progress, not just story or level based, but finding literally any new item and often times you can call others and see their response to the response. its crazy.

I always thought *I* was super thorough with these games, looking up how to get all kinds of secrets online and stuff.

Then I watch one of those UKnighted marathons and its like they're playing a completely different fucking game

MGS is some deep shit

I think MGS2 is better. Despite it's insane amount of cutscenes.

MGS3 just felt less fun and more dumb. Good game but worse than 2.

And that also had an INSANE amount of codec calls.

All the MGS games have an insane amount of detail. People are STILL discovering things about MGS1.

Tomokazu Fukushima was apparently the person who wrote the codec conversations for MGS 1, 2, and 3. He was the co-writer for those games and refined Kojima's ideas. He left Konami in 2006 and the series went downhill afterwards.

The weird part is that no-one knows what happened to him. He just vanished.

As much as I love MGS4 and think it's criminally underrated, the codec calls in that are quite lacking by comparison.

I'm torn on the codex calls.

On one had, I do like them,

On the other hand I do get that you're just watching two guys natter at each other for hours on end.

I do like in MGS5 that you can move around do stuff while they talk.
