Invest in tattoo removal.
As robots take over the back, a neck or face tattoo means you're completely unemployable now, unless automats take off again.

can you highlight the part of the article that backs the claim made in the topic title? the article talks about how the industry is certainly changing, but i couldn't find anything directly showing that more workers were hired in the restaurants with automation. granted, i skimmed and didn't read every single word, so if it was in there i missed it.

It's buried in there pretty deep, hidden by all the meandering.
Less dystopian was the scene at Zume Pizza, in Mountain View, California, where I watched an assembly line of robots spread sauce on dough and lift pies into the oven. Thanks to its early investment in automation, Zume spends only 10 percent of its budget on labor, compared with 25 percent at a typical restaurant operation. The humans it does employ are given above-average wages and perks: Pay starts at $15 an hour and comes with full benefits; Zume also offers tuition reimbursement and tutoring in coding and data science. I talked with a worker named Freedom Carlson, who doesnt have a college degree. She started in the kitchen, where she toiled alongside the robots. She has since been promoted to culinary-program administrator, and is learning to navigate the software that calculates nutritional facts for Zume pizzas.
That's not even "more" workers though, just "more valuable" workers.

Shortly after, though, is this:
The better hope for workers might be that automation helps the food-service and accommodation sector continue to thrive. Paneras Hurst told me that because of its new kiosks, and an app that allows online ordering, the chain is now processing more orders overall, which means it needs more total workers to fulfill customer demand. Starbucks patrons who use the chains app return more frequently than those who dont, the company has said, and the greater efficiency that online ordering allows has boosted sales at busy stores during peak hours. Starbucks employed 8 percent more people in the U.S. in 2016 than it did in 2015, the year it launched the app.

Hell of a lot of cherrypicking possible here, for pretty much every bias.

Says you.

I'm going to make a killing by tattooing a script injection on my face and signing up for any kind of facial recognition anything.

Ah.
The "more employees" does apply to Panera and Starbucks, though, which are definitely chains.

Of course, whether automation is a net positive for workers in restaurants and hotels, and not just a competitive advantage for one chain over another (more business for machine-enabled Panera, less for the Luddites at the local deli), will depend on whether an improved customer experience makes Americans more likely to dine out and stay at hotels, rather than brown-bagging it or finding an Airbnb

I dont see the part where it says Panera got more workers just that workers are now doing more greeting than cashier work. Doesnt say if hours were cut.

Starbucks comment also doesnt take into account of new stores opening and of their hours changing. But the cashier part is probably the least value added activity at Starbucks since more of the harder work comes from making their drinks.

Btw proud, Im an actual engineer, not a just programmer. Im very familiar with automation and costs

People need to stop fear mongering over automation. It's going to come whether you like it or not, and it's not going to turn every low skill worker into a homeless person overnight.

Ironically enough, the people I see fighting it the hardest are the same people that claim to be the party of progress.
