I watched the first episode and the humor was like, terrible. I couldn't even focus the entire episode. There was probably one joke in the whole episode I found even slightly amusing and that's it.

The first 6 episodes are usually considered the worst.

Season 1 gets better, and Seasons 2-4 are fantastic.

It's interesting. The majority opinion is that Bojack gets better each season. I think it's the other way around. I thought season 1 was the funniest. It went from a comedy drama to a drama over time. I thought the humor got weaker each season and it just got overly emotional, imo.

In a nutshell, most people don't like season 1. It's not a show for laughs. It's very depressing.

I didn't like it when I started it either. Ep 2 is pretty funny, IMO, but the show really starts shining around episode 6/7.

It's shit until like the end of the first season. Season 2 is a fucking masterpiece though. If you don't like it by then then you won't like it.

Just a quick question, do you like dark and depressing shows? Because Bojack is one of them and it gets really dark in later seasons. In fact, when you get to episode 8 the show immediately takes a drastic turn on its tone and mood.

When does it get super sad and depressing? People talk about crying their eyes out during this show and Ive not seen anything that sad but I have one last episode before season 1 is over.

I don't know about crying, but the show does get pretty damn depressing.

I guess I should give it more of a shot. I can't get past Ep 2

If you can't get past it, I would suggest stopping. While the show does get better, the humor structure is pretty consistent.

A lot of people consider 'Downer Ending' from season 1 pretty bad. Seasons 3 and 4 have the darkest episodes though.

I think the end of season 2 is the nadir of bojack but I need to rewatch some seasons

anyway I never thought the show was anything but good so its hard for me to say when you should start liking it. I actually can't imagine why you'd like it more as it goes on since I don't feel the style changes much but I am in the minority obviously

its not cry your eyes out depressing. bojacks inner monologue just hits close to home for a lot of people. if you don't suffer from pretty bad depression yourself you'll probably miss out on a lot.

Make it through season 2. I've never cried from it or anything but it does get pretty soul crushing. The first season is bad though, I'd honestly suggest just binging through it when you have the time and then slowing back down for the show from there.

The humor gets way better, episode 6 is where it starts to figure out its balance.

Nah, I felt the humor being the same since episode 1. The only thing I hated about Bojack was that it didn't feel different from any other animated show, until it started getting to the depressing bits. Though I do say that episode 6 is where it finds its footing and gets progressively better with the story telling, character development, and mixing the humor with the serious stuff.

there's a website that changed the way they review TV shows because of BoJack - they used to review half a season, so it got mediocre reviews. after realizing their error, they started reviewing more episodes - I think it's a full season now

Seriously. If you review half of season 1 of Bojack, it's shit.

I don't understand why they'd review a show that way to begin with unless they're putting a big disclaimer that they only did the first half and at that point they might as well be one of those sites that reviews each episode individually.
Imagine watching the first half of a movie, stopping, and getting paid to publish a review of it.

If you're not able to get early access to it for review purposes to watch all of it before release, then you shouldn't rush out a review at release just to have it out when you didn't even finish it.
