I am watching Super for the first time and I am up to the first tournament. Goku just seems like he has slowed within the mind. He randomly powers down just to get shot with a gun. Then later on he punches that guy with the big nipples . Among other small silly things. But I have to say I am liking Vegeta, I use to not like him at all.

But did that Jocko guy just come out of the blue or does he have come back story that I missed?

he's always been slow when it comes to everything but martial arts, he had a brain injury as a kid. that gunshot only served the purpose to remind him that he's getting rusty and needs to train more. funi english dub made him more badass and heroic than he was meant to be, super dub is just a little bit more faithful to his intended character.
jaco does come out of nowhere but also has a "backstory."

The Super dub should have kept Goku the way he was in Z.

regarding Jocko, Dragon Ball has always had a tendency to just introduce a new character and then act like they were always there.

Take Gero for example. Dude literally didn't exist in the series until the Android Saga. And then everyone's just talking like he's always been there.

Someone had to create the androids.

I hate how at the end of Z Vegeta and Goku came to respect and like each other as friends, but then Super started and threw all that shit out the window.
