The nokia N-Gage got crapped on for looking like a taco, not functioning well enough as a cell phone or as a game platform.

Yet every cell phone after this one incorperated every detail but the shell into future cell phone technologies.

As much as it was crapped on at the time, the device has become something of a legend. Like the failed R-zone, Virtual Boy, or the Neo-Geo.

Most of you haven't played this device, but if you were gaming in 2003, internetting, or watching late night TV on adult swim, you bet you heard about this device.

So, to end this post, I'd like to quote a famous gamefaqs meme of this time period
"You bought an N-gage, didn't you?"

I actually thought the QD rectified many of the complaints the original N-Gage had.

Unfortunately, it was already becoming too late for Nokia when they pushed out the 2nd iteration of the the N-gage like 8 months after revealing the first one.

Now today, that's perfectly fine. A new iphone comes out every year. But in 2003, that was an outrage. How dare Nokia screw over initial buyers of the N-Gage by making a QD version so soon after?

N-Gaging, isn't it?

Yeah, the first revision had some really bad design choices, like forcing you to remove the battery to switch game cards.

Actually, I don't. I could google up the story, but seeing as it would add to the discussion, would you mind sharing?

basically a guy said he got kidnapped and put in like a basement for a year or so (citation needed) and they finally released him and said we have nothing against you, we just hate the n-gage or some shit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartphone#History

The first commercially available device that could be properly referred to as a "smartphone" began as a prototype called "Angler" developed by Frank Canova in 1992 while at IBM and demonstrated in November of that year at the COMDEX computer industry trade show.[7][8][9] A refined version was marketed to consumers in 1994 by BellSouth under the name Simon Personal Communicator. In addition to placing and receiving cellular calls, the touch screen-equipped Simon could send and receive faxes and emails. It included an address book, calendar, appointment scheduler, calculator, world time clock and notepad, as well as other visionary mobile applications such as maps, stock reports and news.[10] The term "smart phone" or "smartphone" was not coined until a year after the introduction of the Simon, appearing in print as early as 1995, describing AT&T's PhoneWriter Communicator.[11]

As the originator of the idea for the IBM Simon, Canova has been described as the inventor of the smartphone.[4][5]

I had both of those phones. But I liked the first one better then the QD. I had three games for it. (College Football, Splinter Cell, and The Sims) It was a great conversation starter.
