I held on to mine, but I don't really know why. I guess so I can prove what I agreed to in case they come after me for money? I don't actually think something like that would happen, but it doesn't hurt to hang on to them. Except for the tons of paper! That's why I've been digitizing mine today.
And I mean months or years after you move out and your deposit and whatnot has already been reconciled. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Between my and my parents' files, I should have a hard and/or electronic copy of each lease I've signed.

i don't keep my leases. if they want to take me to court for something the landlord would need to provide a copy of my specific signed lease agreement. i have a digital copy of my current one. it's helpful to save them though in case they showed up with an altered lease agreement and you'd have no proof it was altered without a copy of your own original lease.

I do. Always good to have proof. Plus, I don't really trust my landlord. So, yeah...

I just take a picture of the agreements and leave it on my phone. Actually on your phone or at least on some kind of connected cloud storage? I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving important documents like that on my phone. It could get lost or destroyed, or I might just plain forget to transfer them over when I get a new phone (though it would probably be part of my SD card) ... Copied to Clipboard!

So am I right or wrong? I'm sure it depends on the state but I would imagine there's a statute of limitations on a lease agreement as far as pursuing something in court
