Do you think home schooling is just as good as public schooling?

13 y/o Joseph Deschambault from Manitoba, Canada is a recovering addict because he's been addicted to PORN since he was NINE YEARS OLD!!

The home schooled child said he was playing a video game when he clicked on an X rated advert that popped up on his computer screen and since then he could think of nothing but extreme and violent content..

His parents said it revealed an immediate change in his behaviour and he was a different kid ever since.

Tasha, his mom said she realized what was going on after stumbling across his internet search history and he went from playing with his sisters to BERATING them. He started to disrespect his sisters AND his mom and women in general!!

He spent hours looking at hardcore and violent porn and graphic images of women while pretending he did school work as he tried to "mimick" what he saw and his sisters were scared to be alone with him

She said "My son was too angry all the time to interact with kids and when he did he often started fights. He went from ahving fun playing with toys with his sister to beating her up and she became terrified with him, begging me not to leave the room with him"

The recovering porn addict said he kept his porn habit a secret and watched 24/7, non stop in the middle of the night..

His mom would have to be with whenever he used a computer from now on so that she could monitor his usage.

The Christian family home schooled their child because they did not trust a public school system for their children and hoped to raise their kids with religious value and doing it the right way..but now they have to restrict their children from the internet as they didn't anticipate a computer in damaging their kids minds...

Do you think Home School is just as good as Public School? let's see what people think

This story sounds less "true story" and more "based on a true story." Kinda' doubting that he was a good, perfect kid, then suddenly turned into the devil overnight because he discovered porn.j

This is absurd nonsense and you should be ashamed posting it.
I feel sorry for the kid, whatever's going on.

A 9 year old is not a porn addict, that's just utter nonsense.

"he went from playing with his sisters to BERATING them. He started to disrespect his sisters AND his mom and women in general!! He spent hours looking at hardcore and violent porn and graphic images of women while pretending he did school work as he tried to "mimick" what he saw and his sisters were scared to be alone with him"
Sounds like some b******t anti-porn anti-freedom christian propaganda.

"The recovering porn addict said he kept his porn habit a secret and watched 24/7, non stop in the middle of the night"
I wonder how his parents could not have noticed their child watching porn 24 hours a day, not even taking a break to eat or sleep. Maybe the parents were in church 24 hours a day?

"The Christian family home schooled their child because they did not trust a public school system for their children and hoped to raise their kids with religious value"
Because letting the kid watch porn 24 hours a day is better and more christian than going to school??
This is not very believable.

Given the state of our nation's schools, it probably is. Granted, I would never home school just because it's a huge hassle and the kids lose out on socialization.

And here I thought "in the middle of the night" referred to a period of like 6 hours at the most, not the whole 24.

No as parents can only teach their own knowledge and home schooling lacks the socialising aspect.

Apparently he didn't keep it a secret well enough. Still nothing wrong with the type of porn he's watching at least.

Yeah, homeschooling can be just as good (if your parent(s) are good teachers), but is more of a trade-off thing. I've been homeschooled up until college, and while SATs were a breeze, and I was kept away from peer-pressure/bullying, I had a serious lack of social skills.

I'm trying to use college as a means to fix that deficiency though.

Not actually true. Home schooling has actual programs and government regulation (I *think* at least at the state level, if not also the federal). Parents and teachers basically just serve as proctors to some extent.

Well sure they can follow programs and teach the kids that way but it still isn't as good as having a teacher who specialises in that subject teaching you about it.

How can there be a picture of the kid with the article?
That seems illegal, as it seems improbable that his parents would have given permission for everyone to see it.

The problem with that idea is you don't always have a teacher who actually specializes in that area. You might have somebody within the same department with a specialty adjacent to that -- like a history teacher who specialized in another kind of history -- but most teachers are expected to cover a variety of subjects and only one (if even that) might be their actual specialization. It's sometimes worse at the college level. I'm not sure if you watch Last Week Tonight, but a recent piece discussed how a professor was asked to teach an advanced-level computers course despite lacking even a basic expertise in the subject material.

Personally, I had a *lot* of teachers who taught directly from the book. But you know, public schools in the US are generally shit because we have unions putting the interests of teachers above those of students (especially when it comes to protecting older, underqualified teachers who have spent decades in the system). It's probably better in the UK.

true I got home schooled for one year as a hold over until my family could move (mother despised our local schools, and for good reasons but thats another story) and they mailed her a packet of the curriculum and gave her instructions to go to a particular store and buy the text books they wanted us to use.

while true I somehow doubt teachers are as smart as they used to be. It always bugged me in school when someone would ask the teacher a question and they had to go look it up. or even took the lazy way out and told the student where they could look the info up. at that point a homeschool teacher is just as effective.

I guess I got lucky with homeschool though. for most subjects just give me a good text book and I can teach myself. math being one of the few things I actually did need help with.
