It's like some random dude in Michigan can just find a job in Nashville like that and move down here. I though companies only wanted locals?

Why would they only want locals? They want anyone who is qualified

I had a job offer for a network support position in Nashville, TN last year. I decided to stay in Austin, though, after getting an even better job offer.

They're essentially looking for people who are qualified. If said qualified person is out of state, they'd just need to work out the relocation details.

If you're qualified and able to relocate, yeah. They said I knocked both interviews out of the park and gave me a job offer a few days later.

I had one ask me if I wanted to interview for a job in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Him: Hi, I am calling about a network engineer job opportunity in Tulsa.
Me: You mean Tulsa as in Tulsa, Oklahoma?
Him: Yes
Me: No thanks. *Hangs up*
