I'm a big fan of the series and finally getting around to this game since it's the holiday season and it's on sale. I knew it wasn't gonna be as good as the first 2 but there's so much awkward shit in this game.

- I can't throw melee weapons anymore? What a downgrade. What's the point of picking up a cash register? This whole inventory system is more complicated than what was there before. Such a bizarre decision.

- Are survivors all generic and stand around waiting to be rescued? They're all in stupid mascot costumes. I had a glitch where I found a survivor calling for help and couldn't do anything. When I returned later his name was different. So are these randomly generated or something? What a downgrade from the unique survivors. I knew the loss of the timer was gonna have an impact but this is a huge step down. I thought they'd at least be unique side quests that were no longer times.

- Why are most of the zombies dressed up as elves? It's weird. At one point I had an entire street of elf zombies. The Christmas themed zombies should still be a minority unless Black Friday shoppers dress up as elves for some reason

- This game is really trying hard to be funny and making Frank West into some cool badass. The first game had a dorky charm to it. This just has the wrong idea. The bad guys are talking about how cool Frank West is in emails is just stupid. The psychos are also dumb. It's like they're from Saints Row with ridiculous followers dressed up in a theme.

- This game is so damn glitchy. Mentioned earlier the survivor who had no objective. Also had a random moment of being unable to attack while Frank ran around awkwardly. I'm only on Case 2.

My expectations were lowered and it's still not meeting them. It's such a bizarre sequel that seems to be trying to please as many people as possible but not really hitting the mark for anyone.

Yes. Was a massive DR fanboy who 1000/1000 200/200ed every DR game including case west/zero/off the record and the dlc for DR3. DR1/2 still remains some of my favorite games of all time.

I hate the cockiness of that lead developer guy. Man I'm so salty about that survivor comment.

"In the previous games you'd save a survivor and they'd just run away and you'd think that was pointless. Now you get rewarded!"

That describes DR4 way more than the original 2. In the original 2 it was incredibly satisfying getting survivors back in the safehouse and watching the place get more and more crowded. You knew all of them from their weird little quests and escorting them back.

In DR4 they run off, leave a combo weapon and are a new statistic to upgrade safe houses.

He spent most of his video either being ignorant about the originals or talking shit about them. I've never really seen anything like that before.

I do wish I could get into DR2, I've heard good things about that but I can't wrap my head around the whole "gotta find Zombrex" mechanic, plus time limits drive me crazy in a game... It took me like five tries to get into the original Dead Rising (and when I did finally I think I beat it in one weekend), I don't know if I can get into that mentality again >_>.

only thing i didn't mind was the removal of the timer. i really hope that Dead Rising 4's poor sales doesnt make Capcom ax the games, because Dead Rising is one of my favorite franchises and was the reason I bought the Xbox One back in 2013

dead rising 2 was fantastic and that was made by western devs. i also thought 3 was very good as well, but not as good as 1 or 2

You're the only person I've seen that didn't hate the fact that they took out the timer. I haven't played 4 but I feel like I would like the timer being gone. I hate time restrictions in game. Though I didn't completely hate it in 1

i think the timer is a cool game mechanic, and it's an important feature of dead rising games, but i get too anxious playing games with timers because i feel like i have to maximize my time instead of goofing around.

personally i would have liked the devs to figure out some kind of alternative to keep you moving but still let you have time to explore, like maybe make the sidequests stay on a timer but remove the timer for the main quest.

The timer being removed has honestly made the game less fun. They've made the zombies and enemies more aggressive to compensate. So exploring a store is way more of a hassle now.

I wish they kept sandbox mode from OTR and kept a traditional 72 hour + Overtime mode but unfortunately the lead developer didn't think gamers liked to replay games.

Dead Rising 3's timer was just bad and missed the point though.

Completing the main story in DR1 & 2 is still a good experience. The replay value is made obvious but it's not necessary.

If you focused on the main cases as they came up it wasn't so bad. Stuff like beating all the psychopaths your first playthrough probably wasn't gonna happen and you can easily get killed if you're not prepared so it was hard.

I remember the save system confusing a lot of people though. It was easy giving yourself a bad save you couldn't recover from and some people didn't realize they were deleting their save for New Game +.
