Wanted to finally get into the series, and managed to beat five of the series' games this year. And just... Wow, they didn't disappoint. V, VI, VII, and X may be some of the best games I've played (the later two in particular).

Just some random opinions:

I quite liked V's story, the scenes involving Galuf's death are very well done.

VI made me uncertain of weather the story was going to end well for the world and characters. And thanks to that, getting the Falcon was the most hype moment in the series so far.

Kefka and Sephiroth are both great. Not sure about which I prefer. Leaning towards Kefka, because I feel like his insanity's more justified. That said, I wouldn't say they're a couple of my absolute favorite villains.

A lot of VII's character models are distracting, many of them are stright-up ugly. Dogs in particular, they look like shit monsters >_> Dolphins are somehow even worse. Anyway, Cloud's my favorite protagonist so far, VII probably has my favorite party in general.

I was surprised by how hated X's cast seems to be. I didn't find Tidus all that annoying, voice acting aside. The laughing scene was a great bonding moment and I loved it.

Play 9. Its truly great. The rest you havent played are good to ok to awful.

If you have a PS4 FFXII Zodiac Age is good too. I liked FFXV as well but its flawed

iirc 7, 8, CC, and 1 Also the first KH game if you'd count that. I don't remember which one's I finished or didn't or how far along I got, they just weren't sticking to out to me at all. CC was the one out of those I'd say was just a straight up turd though. The others just bored/didn't interest me, that one was physically painful to play.

I lost interest around VII. I feel like they went in a direction I wasn't interested in. The focus after that is on long, cinematic, very linear storylines, whereas the earlier games had a more tabletop-like feel to them.

5 is alright, but It suffers from being the bastard child that we never got until the PlayStation. Gameplay is phenomenal, music is okay, but the story is mediocre at best. 4, 6, 7, 9, and arguably 10 are the strongest games in the main franchise. 8 and 12 are guilty pleasures for some people, with 12 being a legitimately good game if that's what you're into.

FF12 belongs in the garbage can (imo), but FF8 is GOTY forever

I loved Type-0 despite its flaws, but it may be because I love dark shit and it's a game about child soldiers who have the "mercy" of their existence being forgotten by everyone when they die so as to spare the pain of loss to everyone else.

FF1: Decent.
FF2: Less decent than 1.
FF3: Shit.
FF4: Good. A bit frustrating.
FF5: Great.
FF6: Super great!
FF7: Great.
FF8: Some problems.
FF9: Good. Solid.
FF10: Between good and great.
FF11: Boring.
FF12: Like FF11, but better and offline.
FF13: Decent. Some questionable design choices.
FF14: Never played.
FF15: Decent.
FFT: Amazing.

This is based on the original games, not remakes.

1: Just go play D&D.
2: Interesting, but flawed stat systems.
3: Some classes are useless. A good base that was expanded upon.
4: They got rid of most of the interesting party members, sticking you with the most boring and annoying.
After Years: Eh...
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest: The fact that Life murdered even the final boss is hilarious.
5: Krile keeps looking at me for some reason.
6: Kefka is proof that localization can and does make things better than just a straight, boring translation.
7: For a generically mediocre JRPG, it sure is popular.
Crisis Core: Actually pretty decent, all things considered.
8: NO
9: Never played.
10: God why...
10-2: GOD WHY
11: Never played.
12: Never played.
13 and its kin: OH GOD WHY
14: Never played
15: Never played.
Tactics: Amazing, but marred by a bad translation and horribly unbalanced. Still poured thousands of hours into it anyway.
Tactics Advance: A pale shadow of the original Tactics, but I still like playing as the bad guy.
Tactics A2: Better than Advance, but still a pale shadow.
Dissidia Final Fantasy: It's alright, but it gets boring fast.
Dissidia 012: Same as above.

And for the not so FF games with the name still attached...

Adventure: It's aged pretty bad, yet I still prefer it over the remake, Sword of Mana.
Legend: Killing God with a saw is the best ending.
Legend 2: The best of the three games.
Legend 3: It's alright.

Mofuji: The PSP versions of 1 and 2, and the GBA versions of 4, 5, and 6 greatly improve on the originals, and War of the Lions' translation (FFT PSP) is amazing.

The only numbered Final Fantasy games I've played are 7 and 13. I didn't like 13 much and 7 was one of the worst games I've ever played IMO. I got about half way through it and thought it was extremely boring and quit.

It's a tool that you can ignore if you don't like it for the most part. Cards give you all the magic anyway.
