By this I mean the going out of bounds is something the developer intended, perhaps as secrets or even as a main gameplay feature - and as a stretch, I'll even include stuff like the Mario warp zones that require you walk above the ceiling since that's out of the normal game bounds.

I won't count stuff like wall clipping/glitching that's simply due to bugs

Edit: The premier example I can think of is Anodyne

I know most of the ratchet and clank games.

You can even get skill points for finding areas off the map, and in a couple you have to go "out of bounds" to reach the insomniac museum easter eggs.

Would Halo 2 count? I haven't played it in forever, but I remember a lot of skulls and the Scarab Gun required you to go to some pretty crazy places. If it's intended is it really out of bounds though? They weren't hidden in like, the void or behind invisible walls or whatever you wanna call it.

Perfect Dark is another one, but I don't know how intentional it is. You can use the Psychosis Gun or Farsight to get into doors that would otherwise be permanently locked.

I'll count Halo 2 easily, those skulls are craaaaazy. Perfect Dark is less so, but it has the hidden cheese which is in the SPIRIT of the topic

Pretty much any of the Grand Theft Auto games.

I remember an easter egg in San Andreas at the top of the Golden Gate Bridge that said "There are no Easter Eggs up here. Go away."

In Stanley's Parable, there's some dialogue for stepping out of bounds, so I'm sure it was intentional

You do that in almost every Zelda game and the areas you uncover aren't out of bounds

The Stanley Parable, for one.

Metroid Fusion has a quasi-example, where you can get back to an area you're not supposed to get back to by shine-sparking; if you do, there's a message from the developers.

It means you're not supposed to be able to get there so obviously the real meaning isn't applicable to the topic.

Intended out of bounds is an oxymoron, so the topic itself would be pointless. The idea of the topic is pretty clear though and seems like an interesting thought.

Ya, I mean stuff like off the map. If you've played Anodyne's postgame you'd know what I mean.

Yeah, that Scarab Gun was a real pain. Don't you have to bait a Banshee through some really long tunnel? I remember it would always get stuck so we'd have to try to melee it out of a jam but then it would end up destroying it

Topic should just read "Games with secret areas".

I think Braid had a secret where you had to ride a cloud for 45 real-time minutes or something.

fallout 4 maybe counts. main story mission requires you to go a ways out of the squared in area on the map. without doing the main story you wouldn't normally think to explore this area even though there is no "physical" boundary keeping you out despite the map showing thats where the map ends. but the area causes heavy radiation poisoning which would deter people from exploring it.

Yeah that was the first thing that came to my mind though I'm not sure it counts. It is kinda out of the map but I dunno.

only reason i'd be skeptical about counting is the fact the main mission itself is what forces you to go out that way. but to one of those types of people that ignore main quests in ES/FO games it wouldn't be obvious at all as the radiation would give them impression they aren't meant to go exploring there.

I might get around to actually fully exploring the area considering I get a life time supply of mysterious serum.
