I've only fully watched one Precure series myself, which was Heartcatch. For the others, I just know what I've heard online from other people in Precure threads on /a/ and Reddit. I know that the currently airing one that's almost finished, Kirakira, is one of the lower-rated series in the franchise (it has a 7.06 on MAL, while most are in the 7.2-7.4 range and Heartcatch has the highest at 7.88) but I don't know if it's due to mediocre fight scenes or something else about it. That's just about all I can say to help you on that. But yeah, the original Precure series is a good starting point for a newcomer. Smile, Go Princess, and the aforementioned Heartcatch are also good for newcomers too. Remember that none of the different Precure series are related by story, and you can easily enjoy one (even a recent one) without ever seeing any of the others.
