in Kanto?

Just started Pokemon Crystal for the first time (long time Pokemon player, just never played Crystal), and someone in the first town notes that Pikachu is an evolved form.

So naturally that got me thinking, if Pikachu is an evolved form in Kanto, as well as Pokemon like Jynx, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, etc. But their baby Pokemon don't generally appear there in times of the first games of Red/Blue, what would be the reason behind this?

Pikachu/Jiggly/Jynx etc migrated to the areas and the babies don't show up? But then a Pikachu breeding with a Pikachu should spawn a Pichu.

I'm overthinking this

Posting anyway

A theory i read once is that everything after gold/silver is a prequel. Eventually, all the god Pokmon caused some form of cataclysm, which wiped out a lot of different Pokmon species and decimated the human population. Hence why red/blue and gold/silver have far fewer Pokmon and people.

As for baby Pokmon, IIRC the theory said that red/blue took place not long after the cataclysm. That being said, it takes a while for populations to go back up.

Interesting. Kinda depressing

That would make that one Pokemon Munna (Gen 3? 4?) that someone in Pokemon Red/Blue references pretty interesting

Baby Pokmon are premature. Their parents were forced into labor early by items they're holding.

That's interesting, I've never heard that one before. The main theory I've heard (which is also reinforced by the games) is that there's a split timeline. The backstory of X/Y, involving AZ, the Eternal Flower, and the discovery of mega evolution, are what cause the split. This is hinted at in the delta episode at the end of OR/AS:

uHEi68i

If the Eternal Flower is never built and its effects on the world are never felt, then mega evolution is never discovered and we get the timeline of the original games: R/B/Y -> G/S/C -> R/S/E. This provides and in-universe explanation for some of the things that appear in the remakes of these games but not in the originals.

If the Eternal Flower is built and successfully fires but doesn't achieve its objective (as it's mentioned in X/Y) then its effects on the world bring about the possibility and discovery of mega evolution and we get the current timeline. FR/LG (or Pokemon Origins) -> D/P/Pt + HG/SS -> B/W -> B2/W2 -> X/Y -> OR/AS -> S/M

If the Eternal Flower is built, successfully fires, and wipes out almost all of humanity just like AZ wanted, then we get a world primarily composed of and run by Pokemon, AKA the Mystery Dungeon games.

I wouldn't say it's widely accepted by the fanbase, although I've heard people talking about it on a few different sites and boards. There's enough evidence (in canon or otherwise) to believe that it might apply, and I haven't heard any other theories that make more sense than this one.
