Bilateral Salpingectomy, the complete removal of both fallopian tubes. It's better than a litigation (tying the tubes) because there is no chance for an egtopic pregnancy (egg is fertilized in the tubes), which can be extremely deadly

I'm excited :3

Nah, I could get it done now at 18. But then my insurance wouldn't be paying for it

good luck finding a doctor that'll do that for you at 21. i'd start researching childfree friendly doctors now because you're going to have a difficult time finding a doctor that'll sterilize a fertile 21 year old that's never had a child or been married.

Zikten posted...

i mean legally you could do it whenever but doctors are very hesitant to sterilize young women that have never had children. or really even if you're like 30 if you've never had kids most doctors will refuse and just tell you to go on a semi-permanent form of birth control.

Good luck finding a doctor that will do that for you. Apparently none will ever do it because sometimes people try and sue them 20-30 years later and are sometimes successful. And they just don't want that looming over them.

I've already done my research and have found dozens of doctors in my area that have preformed sterilization procedures on women younger than 25. I think that I'll find someone, even if I have to go through 50 doctors to do it

You won't know if a doctor will do it until you get the consultation. And I'd really look into whether your insurance will cover elective sterilization as a 21 year old. Most don't.

if you are adamant that you dont ever want kids then do it but I also suggest on the off chance that you do change your mind that you also freeze some eggs which you could then donate or sell to someone who wants kids but cannot have kids.

Why? I've looked at their policy and it states that sterilization procedures will be fully covered on persons 21 and up. I've also called them to be sure.

Eh, I have my own compelling reasons :)

doctors and insurance just make it difficult.

16 years ago I wanted to get sterilized but the word out there was that there was basically no chance of me finding anyone who would do it for me. Even as a married woman. Ended up having to go with male sterilization instead, which they don't even blink at.

probably PCOS but most sterilization methods will not address that, she should look into hormonal contraceptives to manage symptoms and prevent cysts

Well, ovarian cysts could be taken care of by removing the ovaries... But they tend to hate to do that because it messes up your hormones really badly.

it is, I have PCOS myself and sometimes you can feel a cyst rupture, it's fucking awful and there's very little that can be done

right now i have a pretty good one (or maybe two) growing on my right ovary. i can feel it. it's gonna go one day or i'll end up like one of those people with the giant cysts needing surgery.

men have testicular torsion which is bad

but women can have ovarian torsion too and cyst growth can lead to ovarian torsion which will render you sterile if not dead

It amuses me to have a vasectomized husband AND birth control pills. So much nope for babies.

Weve talked about me getting snipped, but my dad had chronic prostate infections for years so Im super afraid to do it, because I take after him for a lot of things, genetically, and worry Id be predisposed. Im apparently prone to bladder infections (Ive had four, and for men one is unusual).
