My 1911 just stopped firing out of nowhere. Best I can tell is that the firing pin safety plunger broke.

I call up the Remington Customer Service Repair line, guy answers just saying "What do you need?" with a huge sniff as if he just did a line of blow.

I explain the situation to him, he argues with me that the gun should still fire if that is broke. I tell him it's not firing so whatever the problem is I want it fixed.

He takes my information down, sniffing really loudly the whole time and just generally sounding like I ruined his fucking day by calling. Finally he explains to me that they're going to send me stuff to send it to them. Says it's really fast since they overnight it so I should expect it by Monday.

What?

Then he finishes up by mentioning that as long as everything is good with my warranty, they'll ship it right back.

I ask him what if I'm out of warranty because the gun is five years old.

he just says he doesn't know what happens then and hangs up.

Double You Tee Eff mate. I was dumb and this is the first gun I ever bought, but take it from me, don't buy Remington.

Thing is, I'm not expecting to get a free repair.

But like he can't give me a price or anything? It's really weird and to just hang up like that?

I'm about ready to say fuck it and just pay the 50 bucks to get a gunsmith to fix it. Hell, I could fix it if I had some roll pins I think.

Remington quality took a massive nosedive after they were bought out in 2007, was probably slowly slipping before that. Anyway, sucks you had a bad experience, hope everything turns out well for you.

I've got a few Remington firearms but the newest one was purchased in 2005. The others are 30+ years old.

Yeah, I didn't learn about how bad they were till after I bought this back in like 2012. It was my first gun purchase.

Besides this fucking pin breaking out of nowhere, it's been pretty good though. Everyone told me that Remington is good about repairs so I should just send it in to them so hopefully I just got some sick bozo on the phone.

lol, it is that time of year. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and Kramer suspect their accountant is doing blow.

I've been lucky enough to never had to send a firearm in for repair, can usually do it myself. I bought a Winchester 1897 12 gauge at a pawn shop, would not eject shells when I took it out the first time. The ejector was broke, thankfully they were cheap and easy to replace.

I bought a Chinese double barrel 12 gauge at a pawn shop, the rear trigger would slip off of it's 'pin' so I had to modify it to work.

Here's a pic of my 1911, a Springfield Armory GI. Also pictured are my Jericho 941, East German Makarov and a Hungarian AMD-65.

unless you find something made before the 2000's its best to just avoid remington. theyve turned to shit for over a decade and are hurting financially because of it.

Sell your Remington as soon as it's fixed.

Use the money to buy a Taurus 1911

They're actually worth their price, which is like 500 or 600 depending on where you look.

I know Remington has their issues but I'd never sell one for a damn Taurus.

Taurus 1911's are great. They've upped their game the past 5 years or so but they're 1911's have always been solid.
