Go in to buy a game for $19.99 listed on the site as able to get in store. Try to charge me $29.99. Ok that's fine. I'll take that as my mistake.

They open a fucking white sleeve and an empty case and put that shit back in there and put a clear piece of tape on it and try and sell that shit as fucking NEW?!?

Rot in hell bastards. God now I know why I avoid GameStop at all god damn costs.

Ordered it online for $20 instead. (Resident Evil 7). At least my shit will be in the god damn box sealed up and ACTUALLY NEW.

God damn bastards.

This just happened to me. I was thinking "that's kind of annoying". He explained it was the last copy as the reason. I walked out and no longer cared. Holding on to such little shit only hurts you. You're just gonna open it anyway. Blu rays don't even scratch unless you really try to on purpose. Life is way bigger than the shrink wrap closing a case bro. Don't get yourself worked up.

That's good. Just consider that it could of been sold to someone else and you'd have no copy at that moment. Be happy you got the last one.

They actually started doing this online as well because lots of stuff ships from local stores now. They did this twice in a row last year, and when I complained to a GM, he was all like shit, we didnt think youd mind

I never used GameStop again after that. I stopped with the stores years ago but online had been great actually till 2015/2016.

Even if that's true it doesn't change that being frustrated over it is a positive thing on your life. You need better priorities in life if this is the stuff that gets to you. The worker is just doing what he is instructed to do anyway. If you feel better making someones job harder over lil shit than do what you do I guess. Ill be having peaceful fun thoughts.

Im honestly fine being the reason businesses get away with it too. Im not adding stress to my life over shrink wrap. It's such a small nothing to me

it is the same thing

try this

buy a NEW game that is opened from gamestop

then wait 1 day, don't break the sticker they put on the box

try to return it

they won't let you because they will say it is NOT NEW, you OPENED it and taped it

but they sold it to you as new didn't they? how can they say it is no longer new when you had not altered it in any way?

because they sold you something different than what you ordered

just like giving you a salad when you asked for a burger

nope

it is to save space

how would this be better than opening a glass case exactly? the locked drawer is no different

but instead of having a large shelve with the unopened game, they just need a stack of general boxes and shove all the discs into a drawer which is a space saver

fyi, the newest games aren't opened and in a glass case behind them

sounds like you got an issue

fyi, metaphors don't need to have everything the same to work, just the part that makes the point needs to be the same

How does having an empty box save space from a full box? If anything, your way takes up more space as you need the dedicated drawer rather than just the shelves.

Old department stores used a glass case and kept things locked, making browsing by anything but cover art impossible. You can get away with that at Walmart, but some of us still see value in the back of the box when we browse.

if they're spending the money on sleeves anyway, why not instead just spend the money on printed inserts they can use for the generic replacement cases? It would probably be cheaper in the long run.

I mean you know as well as I do that the reason is because employees actually get to take that game home and play it so it's not even New in a literal sense.

if I told some collector that I had a mint Mickey Mantle Topps rookie card and he paid like 1 million dollars for it and I gave him the card in perfect condition tightly sealed up in a 4-inch acrylic card case, the first thing he would say is "that's not mint, that's near mint"

you can put any disc into it

you don't need more boxes than expected sales for the day

in other words, you can have 20 boxes max and put 300 discs in the drawer

if you sell 15 games that day, you just get 15 more boxes from the warehouse the next morning

alternatively, you would have to put 300 boxes on the shelf if you didn't open them all and strip them of their contents to put inside the drawer

There was a time (around 2008) where 9 out of 11 games in a row I tried to get at Gamestop were their "open last copy". With 4 of them being on their release day with me being there as soon as they opened.

These days I only buy games from Gamestop if I have them pre-ordered. If a game's out and I didn't pre-order it then I'm getting it somewhere else.

Or you could just leave the in the cases and only take what you expect to need out or the warehouse at the beginning of the day. Since the cases leave with the customer you'd still need to hit up the warehouse anyway if you ran out, so all you've achieved (aside from making sure sealed games aren't easy to steal as I've said) is a make work project of taking games and putting them into sleeves, only to put them right back upon sale.. Of course, that would depend on your store. At mine the "warehouse" are small rooms that double as the manager's office, so I doubt there's much more stock than what's out.

Doesn't work because those 300 games could all be different unique games

you have no idea what you need because you don't know which of the 300 games the customer will randomly walk in and buy

your scenario is assuming all 300 games are copies of call of duty (an example)

And the shelves have unique cases (or at least papers in the cases) to identify the game you're buying. So either way you have the same space taken up by game boxes for a mix of specific games (10 COD, 10 Assassin's creed, 10 Halo, etc) be it empty cases or sealed ones. Of course, I've never seen a gamestop (or any other store for that matter) that didn't just leave the inventory on the shelves at the end of the day.

no

I am saying they have generic cases they can stick any game in

they will have 1 case that is a show case on the shelf, yes

you do understand a DVD case is just a piece of plastic with an insert right? you can remove that insert and put it into any other DVD case and no one would would tell the difference

It's because it's a sale weekend. During big sales multiple copies get opened to have cases on display.
Does that excuse it? Nah, but it explains it.

If you go on any normal day of the year, 9 times out of 10 you'll get a sealed copy unless it's the last one.

And fyi, you can definitely return the "gutted" copies. Whoever told you that you couldn't was an incompetent fuck and you should go to a manager.

they don't use special tape

you could literally open it, play it, beat it and use the same tape they used and tell them you didn't open it

so if your local GS manager allows it, he is the incompetent one

The thing is. The reason I made my sig as it is now is because if you just look at the exceptions every time its dumb to argue 99% of anything because "There will always be exceptions". My argument is 9 times out of 10 the person complaining about it is doing it for the smallest reason.

Ordered it online for $20 instead. (Resident Evil 7). At least my shit will be in the god damn box sealed up and ACTUALLY NEW.

If you ordered it online from GameStop there's still a chance your game will have been previously opened and the disc placed in. It's happened to me when I've ordered from their website.

This just happened to me. I was thinking "that's kind of annoying". He explained it was the last copy as the reason. I walked out and no longer cared. Holding on to such little s*** only hurts you. You're just gonna open it anyway. Blu rays don't even scratch unless you really try to on purpose. Life is way bigger than the shrink wrap closing a case bro. Don't get yourself worked up.

this is a lie

if the game isn't a new release they open the new copies and store them in a drawer and put the box on the shelf opened

it doesn't matter how many copies they have

Even if that's true it doesn't change that being frustrated over it is a positive thing on your life. You need better priorities in life if this is the stuff that gets to you. The worker is just doing what he is instructed to do anyway. If you feel better making someones job harder over lil shit than do what you do I guess. Ill be having peaceful fun thoughts.

what a weird gimmick

"oh I ordered a salad but they gave me a burger. I shouldn't complain because life is more than these little things. Who cares if I was on a diet. Dude was just doing his job!"

This is so fuckin hilarious to me right now. Literally just got back from Long John Silvers and they gave me fish instead of chicken and I had to go back and correct it. Couldn't of been better timing. I love life sometimes. You made something that normally sucks humorous for me.

I only buy digital these days.

So f***ing this! I don't mess with stores, lines, pre-orders, and all that noise. There are also only very few times I will buy a game when it just came out. Way too many games are released buggy and/or broken these days because they know they can patch them AFTER they get your $. Bump that. I vote with my dollars. That's the only way these companies will learn. Unfortunately not enough people do this, so nothing gets better.

Don't like fish. However if they gave me the chicken from an already open bag or one that was closed before I ordered it, that would of been insignificant since it didn't change my experience at all.

Yeah, gutting games to sell them as new always irritated me. They did that to me once, and I endeavoured to spend as little money there as possible. I'm not paying full price for an opened game, you fuck sticks.
