1) Jaffar isn't actually a sorcerer until he gets his second wish. I mean, he does have a magic staff and a couple of other magical doodads in his lair, so it may be splitting hairs, but he can't point his staff and make things happen until he gets the Genie.

2) They were right not to make the merchant at the beginning the Genie. I'd like to think Genie was above animal cruelty. It's played for laughs, but that poor camel doesn't have the stamina left to support its own weight after that lengthy journey. Seriously dude, give your damn camel some rest.

3) Aside from the climax, there's almost no action in the second half. It always bugged me how the Super NES game, despite being fairly short and largely faithful to the movie, felt the need to add a pyramid level. Then it dawned on me that the fight with Jaffar is for all intents and purposes the only action sequence in the second half of the movie. Once Genie shows up, the film shifts from adventure to romantic comedy.

I haven't seen any of the recent live action remakes. I am interested in The Jungle Book though. Everyone said that one was good, but I haven't heard a thing about it since it was in theaters.

I can't remember (oddly, with how much I watched that movie) if Jafar claims to be one before the wishes though.

The word sorcerer isn't used until he makes his second wish.

Doesn't Jaffar hypnotize the Sultan a few times before he gets the lamp? Would that count as sorcery?

You could make a drinking game out of it. 1 sip for every time he appears in drag, one gulp for every time he actually has breasts.

Aladdin is weird after you read the source and realize Aladdin was a Chinese guy...like what is the point in making him middle eastern in the Disney version.

I think Jafar was a sorcerer before the second wish, just a low key one who had to rely on spells and making his own things instead of just pointing at stuff. The wish made him "the most powerful sorcerer in the world."

1) He was a weird mix between alchemist and magician, and a two-bit magician too instead of a proper sorcerer-grade one. He definitely did have some magical powers, as seen from hypnotizing the Sultan and using the Sultan's ring to divine the identity and location of his 'diamond in the rough'. He had some talent, just not a lot of it, and his primary traits were that of being a crafty schemer instead of a wizard outright. So, the Genie didn't exactly make him the world's most powerful sorcerer out of nothing, he greatly amplified his latent powers. For that wish to come out of his mouth right after being denied 'respect for being the new Sultan', Jafar must have known all along that he was in fact a magician, just not a very good one.

2) No comment here.

3) I acknowledge the need to add another stage to the game to round out the number of action stages to 6 total. However, it would have been better to have had an ice level instead regarding the part where Jafar blasts Aladdin and Abu(and, as it happened, the Magic Carpet) to Antarctica, since that scene actually does exist in the movie. There would be various advantages to deleting the pyramid level and replacing it with an ice level:
1. As aforementioned, this stage is a place actually covered in the movie unlike the pyramid, so it would be more faithful to source material.
2. Due to chronological reasons this stage would come after the A Whole New World/magic carpet ride bonus stage. It's still a 4-2 split, but that's better than a 5-1 split concerning the game's mandatory, plot-driven bonus stage as it's nearer to the midpoint.
3. This would push the carpet ride stage to directly after Stage 4, the Genie's magical wonderland stage, so it helps with narrative as showing Aladdin in prince form with the princess as a direct consequence of the wish he made to the Genie after meeting him.
4. The possibility of adding new backgrounds/enemies that would be proper to an ice level. As it is, all the enemies in the pyramid level are rehashes(archers, sword-tossers, bats). We could have had penguins, walruses or what have you for enemy variety, then rescuing the Magic Carpet from a giant evil Yeti as a boss fight. Or maybe just add a time-factored action/puzzle sequence to pull it out from wherever it was jammed in before it was too late, like in the movie. So many possibilities.

I agree with you on all points.

It might've been odd seeing Aladdin battle enemies in a frozen wasteland, but at least that would've been based on a scene from the movie. And, yeah, the game needed another boss fight at that point. The pyramid teases one, but it turns out to be Abu acting mischievous. As it stands, the game only has three boss fights and two of them are battles against Jaffar at the very end of the game.

Like I said in the first post, it is splitting hairs a bit.

The magic isn't in him though. He can't use his staff to channel his power. He has none of his own. And the staff is limited to its one function: its ability to hypnotize. The same goes for the hero. He has a magic carpet, but that's not the same as him having the ability to fly.

On one hand, it's like saying that a man with a gun has the "power" to make people fall down dead. On the other hand, if a guy with a hypnotizing staff and a machine which magically allows him to locate somebody isn't a sorcerer, what is he?

Jafar wished to "be the most powerful sorcerer in the world."

So he was probably already a sorcerer, just not nearly as powerful until the wish.
