If you haven't seen the movie, the detective pays an Asian man to hide around his house and try to kill him, so he stays on his toes. He calls him his "little yellow friend". It's amazing they got away with it.

Asians and whites have traditionally held a lot of power throughout history, in many instances reaching far beyond their normal spheres of influence. There's nothing to really be sensitive about these days either, for similar reasons. I had one Indian friend that made the point of "how am I going to insult you? By pointing out your people used to tell mine what to do and you still have lots of money and power? Ooh, burn!" (that makes him sound kind of like a jerk, but he wasn't actually bothered, he was only joking around knowing my mom is from England). While this obviously applies more to white people than Asians, I think the same basic principle is applicable.

Part of it too could be fallout from WWII propaganda that dehumanized the Japanese, as well a lack of complaints about it nowadays (as was already mentioned).

Asians are some of the most racist people on the planet. One of my good friends is from China and they are hilarious. They tell me "I wish I was whiter." I tell em, your tanned skin looks great. Being pale in China is beauty thing and has to do with royalty from hundreds of years of dynasties. Very strong culture they have. If someone in their culture is tanned/brown skin then they might seen as a rice farmer.

2 years ago I called a racist for asking an Asian person what country they're originally from because I'm an immigrant and was curious. They assumed I was going to attack who they were as a person by asking a question. Well my bad, I guess they were too white washed from the brainwash culture in big American cities. The white guy was the one who got the most offended and told me to leave. The Asian girl was probably born in America. They weren't proud of their ethnicity. Leftist brainwash trash.

Yeah, I mean if you're the 500th person to ask, it's not really them being touchy at that point, it could be about anything and get annoying. Whites and natives are like the only ones exempt from the "where are you from?" questions.

I don't know if it's purely a coincidence, but all of the people of Japanese decent I know are with white people (or they're half white). I can think of about 6 off the top of my head, which is a pretty high number considering where I live is basically all whites and Punjabi Indians.

The simple answer is a lot of black people complain about racism whether it's actually happening or not but if you're Asian and complain about racism you'll be told by other Asian people to suck it up and work harder even if it was a legitimate complaint.

Also, Asian people are mostly racist against other types of Asian people.

Is that supposed to mean anything? Europeans, Asians, Africans and Indians all grew up on the same land mass, are we supposed to defend black people because at one point their ancestors weren't as successful as their neighbours? That's unbelievably patronising, effectively reducing people to their bloodlines.

Racism is the same regardless of the recipient, it's not okay to treat people worse just because of their background.

Asians weren't enslaved.

Slavery existed in China.

Also, the U.S. invited a very large amount of Chinese immigrants into the country to build the railroads for them, then after they were done created intentionally racists laws to drive them out, disallow Chinese immigration, and to prevent "blood mixing".

Let's not forget the U.S. rounded up Japanese Americans and put them into camps and purposely released pro racism propaganda to encourage U.S. citizens to want to fight in WW2.

So true

Racism boggles my mind in general though. I don't understand how you can hate another human just because they look different or have a different skin tone. It just isn't something that I will ever understand.

Because of bad experiences and faulty logic, or it's taught like the bible.

When people experience anything they looks for reason, justification. If there isn't reason and they just experience dumb luck, they typically make arbitrary associations to make sense of it in their head.

If a white guy gets mugged by a black stranger on some random night, they may well associate the event with the attacker of which they only know is black. If a black guy studies hard and applies for harvard law but doesn't get in, he may associate not getting in with there being 9x as many white people as black who get in.

People need answers, explanations, so in the absence of information they will make a placeholder to stop themselves overthinking it. It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to not be proven wrong to gain some kind of closure.

also fear. people fear what they don't know or understand so back when differing races first ran into each other. well yeah. we also tend to hate other cultures than our own, just race makes it easier to identify them.

like I used to be uneasy around black people. only really saw them at school, but I kept to myself. as I got older I started to actually associate with them, talk to them and even hang out with them and learned at least modern racism from what I could see is only kept going by some bad apples ruining it for the whole bunch. I actually miss one of those dudes. he was even cool with exchanging racist jokes, he had plenty of his own.
