I've done stand-up a few times years back. I just did short 5 minute routines during a larger show. It's pretty nerve-wracking, but great when you get laughs. Such a rush. Of course, when a joke doesn't go well it feels terrible. I remember a set that went poorly and after one joke, there was just a pause of like three seconds of silence (feels like forever) and one women in front just said, "Oh..."

I highly recommend everyone try it at least once. Bombing isn't fun, but you still learn from it.
