long story short my psychiatrist has been prescribing me straterra which is to treat ADHD which I don't have, so I've been taking this medicine for years before find out what it was for. anyways the side effects of that pills accelerate my heart rate to the point that over the years a lump has developed around my heart. I did not know of this lump until I had gone to the emergency room for chest pains and once they ran the necessary tests they found that the culprit was the straterra. over the years I've been fighting against my psychiatrist so he can change this but he adamantly kept saying no, because apparently he thinks he knows my body better than I do. he also prescribed me 200 mg of seroquel which would put me to sleep for two days.

yesterday I went to see him with doctor documentation about my current condition because those heart beats and those two days of sleep weren't normal so instead of taking them out he made them stronger by making the straterra 80 mg and the seroquel 300mg. now if the prior prescription did me like that then how he expect me to get better? If anything that's only making it worse. so I disputed this due to concern about my health and what the director of the clinic I go to did was basically kick me out the clinic and now I have to wait three days for my medical record so I can find another clinic due to not them not wanting to accept that they messed up on their end. also my head doctor told me that I need surgery for the lump and that is a risky one due to where is located.

is there anything I could do to counter this legally or am I royally screwed?

Talk to a lawyer, sounds like you have a real case on this...

CE lawyers are not the answer to your question.

Yeah I had a feeling I'd would have to go to a lawyer but I searched in Google before anything and all it talks about is hospital malpractice and negligence which is why I had to ask here for some advice if anyone has gone thru the same issue as I'm currently going.

Straterra has a number of off label uses including use for treatment of anxiety, depression, addiction, severe mood swings, and eating disorders. Do you have any of those?

No offense, TC, but just by reading your post none of what you said makes a lick of medical sense - especially the "lump around the heart from tachycardia" nonsense. Seroquel is an antipsychotic; I assume you've been diagnosed with far more than just ADHD.

I did not know of this lump until I had gone to the emergency room for chest pains and once they ran the necessary tests they found that the culprit was the straterra.

What actually happened is you came in with tachycardia and the Chem8 panel and toxicology labs were normal, so they tried to find any med you're on that can potentially cause tachycardia, then blame it on that so you'll get out of their emergency room.

Atomoxetine (Strattera) is a chemical cousin to the SSRIs like Fluoxetine (Prozac). It can cause tachycardia and even arrhythmias, but let's be honest here, it didn't alter the physiology of your heart.

In any case, every psych patient thinks their Psychiatrist is wrong or out to get them. Because they're mentally ill

Now, we have a voice of reason. Hopefully, you don't have to deal with too much of this stuff in your own practice.

i was getting the seroquel for insomnia. but for it to make sleep two days it's not normal.

as far as depression goes I take neurotin for that.

but as far as the straterra goes the doctor said it was for ADHD which I don't have. I'm not a hyper person and I'm usually calmed. and yes it is the straterra causing this because prior of being prescribed to me my heart wasn't acting up like this.

English is not first language so I beg to bear with me. tomorrow I'm going to a follow up appointment regarding my chest.

If you think you're taking Neurontin (Gabapentin) for depression, you really don't know what you're talking and why.

Cardiovascular side effect profile for Atomoxetine (Strattera) from LexiComp:

Cardiovascular: Increased diastolic blood pressure (5% to 9%; 15 mm Hg), systolic hypertension (4% to 5%), palpitations (3%), cold extremities (1% to 3%), syncope (3%), flushing (2%), orthostatic hypotension (2%), tachycardia (2%), prolonged Q-T interval on ECG

You're having tachycardia and palpitations, not some crazy anatomic change. It's because Strattera increases available norepinephrine in your body, which activates your sympathetic nervous system.

And let's be honest, someone who is on Seroquel, gabapentin and Strattera has more than just ADHD for a diagnosis. You're on what amounts to a mood stabilizer regimen. Bipolar?
