A group of women who worked alongside Al Franken on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" have signed a statement of support for the Minnesota senator.

Thirty-six women signed the SNL statement supporting the Democrat, including performers Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman, and many behind-the-scenes staff.

The statement calls Franken's conduct toward Tweeden "stupid and foolish," but says the women know Franken as "a devoted and dedicated family man, a wonderful comedic performer, and an honorable public servant." It says none of them have experienced improper behavior from Franken.

I don't see anything wrong with this. It's not like they are denying what he did or trying to minimize it. People being willing to accept that a person is different now is a good outcome.

I don't even get the political aspect of this. He's a Dem in Minnesota under a Dem governor. He'd be replaced by... another Democrat. There's not even a politically strategic partisan reason for Democrats to want to keep Franken.

The picture was a terrible attempt at humor (which was also an act of sexual assault/harassment). It being a "joke" doesn't excuse the act but Franken was the one "making a joke."

And this is really the difference between conservatives and liberals. Franken gets accused of sexual assault and most of us are like "Yeah then he should be investigated and punished."
