5/7 stars but I'm not really feelin' the magic. I will finish for the sake of completeness but I doubt I'll ever pick it up again -- to be fair, while I used to love RPGs, I haven't really played a JRPG since I beat Persona 4 which was around 2012-ish. Since then I've only really played overwatch and heroes of the storm.

on the other hand, games like donkey kong country and mario kart have still been enjoyable

You get the 6th star like 2 hours before the end of the game >_>

I love the game a lot, but the peak is definitely around the Booster area. Though Monstro Town and Nimbus Land are really fun spots too.

yeah I think its a combination of the hype causing me to have high expectations + having played paper mario first

the timed button presses are kinda cool here but I feel like there's not enough variation in the moveset in how they're used (especially considering which moves are actually useful) -- I think I wouldn't feel that way as much without having played paper mario. plus, I think that this game doesn't really utilize most of the mario franchise for actual story progression as well as paper mario did, another thing I probably wouldn't notice otherwise

also, maybe this is just be personal preference, but the isometric perspective for platforming is just not doing it for me

the minigames are a high light, I enjoy the variety

yeah I noticed as I was typing it up that it had already been a while considering how fast I was getting them lol

this section around monstro town has been my favorite by far (just got to the megasmilax). honestly I thought everything before you get bowser and peach was super forgettable

The SMB3 music when you fight Bowser in the beginning is pretty hype >_>

Also, Bowser is the best character in the game. Too bad his stat balance is super fucked up in late game and he's a terrible fighter by then.

It's been waaay too long since I gave SMRPG a run.

make sure to get the frying pan for peach
it basically covers her only weakness

the frying pan makes her physical attacks hit as hard as marios
her last spell is an attack spell so her magic outdamages mallows
and her healing spells she starts with are blatantly overpowered.

group hug did save my life in the yaridovich fight many times though. toadstool is a beast

a couple years ago a new glitch was found in the game
its called the switch glitch
it lets you give other characters spells to a different character

so you can give peach mallows shocker spell to deal massive damage or give her one of bowsers spells for the novelty of seeing them be useful

Oh nice. Bowser's Crusher and Bowser Crush spells are so fucking wasted on him >_> Hitting with a normal attack does way more damage than these spells lol

yeah its actually really easy to pull off 2
when you try to activate a box that has a star in it try to open up the menu at the same time
it might take a few resets to get the timing right

but if you do it right you will be in the menu with the star music playing
you arent supposed to be able to open the menu under star power so this lets you confuse the game

well you switch the party member slot that peach and mallow are in
so if she is in the second slot and he is in the third slot you put her in the third slot and him in the second slot.

then when you level up the game gets confused and levels up peach in place of mallow but it gives her his new spell he was about to learn

or maybe she has to be leveling up to the level he would normally learn that spell
TBH i dont remember
