Board 8 > So for those holding out, the Skyrim and Rocket League ports on Switch are great

Skyrim looks better than the PS3 and 360 versions but understandably worse than the PS4 and XONE versions. It also seems to have taken care of some of the more annoying problems such as when you fast travel to that one area and vampires start killing all of the merchants. That no longer happens.

Rocket League is definitely more jaggy and less visually appealing, but the game play feels the exact same and being able to bring it on the go is absolutely fantastic.

I have been so pleased with the Switch lately.

True, but gaming laptops are pretty bulky and most of my portable gaming happens as I'm sitting in my car before work. It's harder to pull out a laptop and mouse to game than it is to grab my Switch in that situation.

the rocket league visual downgrade is significant from XB1 and PS4, and drastic from PC, and also it runs at 30fps

that said it's a very smooth 30fps and i am enjoying playing it while laying down

i was not expecting just how jaggy it would be, though.

Are you sure its 30? Seems like 60 to me.

oh i see, it's 60 docked and a moving target undocked. i haven't played docked. it also isn't always 720p undocked,

Ports for the Switch will always be technically inferior. But with my current lifestyle I just dont have the time at home to sit and play something like I used to. Having somethig thats of comparable quality on the go allows me to game way more than I used too.

Plus, thats only in regards to ports. Their first party titles are fantastic as usual

But it should be judged on a different criteria and the mobile factor is entirely the reason for that. You don't judge a Toyota Corolla for much it can tow or judge a Hummer for it's gas efficiency. They serve different purposes while being in the same larger category of "automobiles"

The Switch is extremely impressive for what it allows and it's functionality. It doesn't get a free pass, it's in a different category. If Sony or Microsoft were to copy Nintendo and make a hybrid system that can has the graphical capability of a PS4 or XONE then yes, Switch should be judged more harshly. Until then though, the Switch is an impressive piece of work.

That's the appeal of the Switch. There's no denying that it's the most powerful system in handheld mode that actually has the games that can take advantage of it.

I know there are better mobile CPUs and GPUs than what are in the Switch. But are the Android games taking advantage of it, and are those types of games as plentiful as games on the Switch?

If you're only using it in docked mode, then it's a weak console and a really bad value unless you really, really love Nintendo games. I'm somewhat guilty of that - due to StreetPass on the 3DS, if I can only take one system with me, I take the 3DS. But if you use it undocked, there's no denying that it's a powerful portable system.

In summary:
If you use it as a dedicated home console, it is terrible tech-wise for 2017
If you use it as a portable or hybrid system, it is pretty good tech-wise for 2017

After spending hundreds upon hundreds of hours playing Rocket League on the XB1, having it PORTABLE is amazing.

I'm sad that my entire inventory was wiped (doesn't transfer from system to system), but on the flip side I can play Rocket League in bed, at my desk, in the bathroom, while making love, wherever. Plus the Metroid car is one of my favorites, it feels like a suped-up DLC car but it's free. Easily my go-to from here on out, and I always miss it when I play the XB1 version. You can switch the colors between Samus Orange and Samus Blue (from Fusion) and it's so sexy. And I would expect one day to see F-Zero cars, Zelda cars, and whatever else.

Portable mode is inferior with its graphics, absolutely. But I don't care much about graphics. It's still Rocket League on the go and it's exactly the same to me- fast, fluid, and fun.

What's your highest rank?

Plat 1 in 2v2. I only ever played competitive with my friend though, and it was only ever on XB1. I don't play ranked on my Switch.

Almost all of my Rocket League time is spent playing casually with my wife, or playing casually solo. If I'm ever playing ranked it has to be with a friend and it has to be coordinated. I hate losing, but I really hate losing with strangers.

As a portable console the Switch is flat out amazing. I don't know what you're expecting if you're disappointed it's not more powerful, or why you would want to give up the ability to play it on the go just for better graphics.

Graphics don't matter quite as much but I'd personally give up portability in a heartbeat for stuff like BotW to run at 60 fps. I don't really value portable gaming very much at all, though.
