Everything people love Melee for was an accident, lol. In fact, Sakurai has said that he didn't like how fast and difficult Melee ended up being.

The only way another Smash game resembles Melee is if they change the director. Which may happen, since Sakurai didn't even want to do 4 at first. >_>

I mean I liked some of Brawl but there were just so many flaws... naturally I didn't bother with a Wii U and barely even heard of smash universe. It definitely didn't have anything close to the hype that brawl did. Honestly it feels like in general there's no longer the hype there once was for games, but then again I'm not in gaming circles either.

Pre launch there was a rumor of a Melee HD remake for the switch which I could totally see happening in parallel with a proper new Smash Bros.

However, that franchise is such a guaranteed system seller that there's no way we'll see ANY new version as long as the system is selling well. Nintendo likes to save their big guns for years when content is dry.

Is Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS considered 4 and 5, or are they collectively considered 4?

Asking because on the wikipedia for "future", they rumor Smash 6. Or did I miss a different 5th game after Wii U/3DS?

They're collectively considered the same game, but there's no formal numbering so people can list whatever they want. If you google "super smash bros 5" though it's all articles on a hypothetical switch version.

Sakurai called the 3DS and Wii U titles Smash 4 and 5 respectively.

Sakurai won't make another Smash game as fast paced again. And since SmashU isn't being ported it's safe to say another new installment is in development.

I'm not sure what you're missing in what I'm saying about rebooting the mechanics for a sequel.
