Would you shop at a "Christian Mall"?

John Bushman, a Texas millionaire who recently purchased a mall in Odessa plans to install a MASSIVE 10 Commandments stone tablet inside that mall!!

He paid 17.3 million in CASH for the Vista Ridge Mall and plans to spend another 3-4 million on renovations as he hopes to turn into a "holy" family friendly community space with live music and a 30 by 60 foot American Flag outside.

The state of the Commandments will be on the First Floor of the Centre of the Mall and it will be 8'10 feet tall weighing a huge 800lbs!!

He said "We're not trying to overwhelm anyone or make a statement, we just believe in the Lord's love and i think any human appreciates what God has given us. That's the sole reason. We hope when someone sees it, it will touch their heart and give them new hope that day and look to God for forgiveness and prayer"

He wanted to put the stone tablet on the second floor but there were concerns of its weight and instead the second level will have TWO smaller commandments.

John said "We're putting the 2 greatest commandments about loving the Lord and your neighbor on the second level because they weigh about a third of the 800lbs Ten Commandments. In times of turbulence in the world, we're sharing peace and the Lord's love. We all need more of that"

The mall will also be emblazoned with several christian memorabilia and other prominent figures in the BIBLE where customers will see at almost every turn.

Would you ever shop at a "Christian Mall"? let's see what people will vote

Oh, that's nowhere near as crazy as the conclusions I was jumping to judging from the title. It's essentially just a mall with a novelty gimmick. Given that it could attract people simply for being different, it might not be a bad idea.

Apparently, they skipped over all the parts in the Bible where Jesus was against capitalism and greed. I'm sure the folks who bought the mall also pay their employees livable wages with full benefits too, just like a good Christian would do.

Seriously, you do not accrue $20 million in capital without making it at the expense of others. I'm sure the "good Christians" that shop at this mall, thereby supporting rampant commercialism and greed, will not even stop to think about it all.

Churches have progressively resembled malls over the last couple decades, so it's just the logical conclusion to merge the two.

Seems like your link doesn't quite have the facts right. Vista Ridge Mall is in Lewisville Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I live less than a mile from that mall.

Probably would make me less likely to go there, not that I really do now. The movie theater is pretty good though.

I mean, to me it would just be like walking into an amusement park themed shopping area. I wouldn't personally have a problem with it.

Against greed sure, but certainly not against capitalism. The Bible kinda explicitly encourages capitalistic policies which, in all honesty, largely fulfills societal expectations at the time.

So a guy is hoping his investment will garner higher traffic in the name of the Lord and make him more money.

Which is like against the Bibles teachings.

Love it.

Again, not actually against it.

Pretty much how I see it, although I might be a little uncomfortable in a place like that.
